More than half her life on 'Mad Men'?

At the NY Times "conversation" last night, Jon Hamm observed that Kiernan has been "on the show" for longer than she hasn't. I don't think his math is exactly right, but it's close. Kiernan turned 12 last November and she likely filmed her first episode ("Ladies Room" with the infamous dry-cleaning bag incident) in late 2006 when she was 7 or about to turn that age. Pretty cool!

Both Hamm and Matt Weiner had lots of really great things to say about Kiernan's acting, her as a person, and her family. Here's a link to the video.

That's funny, but it's not the first time. Think Olsen Twins; literally grew up on that show. There are others too.

I could care less, but I don’t care enough to bother.

You know, I'm not entirely convinced this is a good thing. What kind of a view does one get of life, when you spend over half of it on the set of a TV show, in a make-believe family?

Granted, she'll probably have a career as an actress after Mad Men ends (and she grows up a bit), but Miss Lohan is the book example of a life gone horribly wrong after child stardom.

Although in interviews, she seems WAY beyond her years, articulate, polite and smart. So hopefully things will turn alright and she keeps her feet on the ground.

I think MM films its 13-episode long seasons in less than 6 months, and Kiernan appears in about half the episodes, so her on-set experience is less intense than that of some other young actors.

But, yeah, she seems incredibly well-grounded, and from what I've read, her parents are very involved in monitoring what she is exposed to. This past season of MM was the first where she participated in table reads for her episodes.

Yeah, I'm not convinced it's healthy to grow up on a show. But I'm not sure how much work she actually does for this (see below, which suggests it's comparatively little) - it might be enough to give it significantly less prominence than her real life and therefore be less consuming.

I occasionally see articles profiling her and all she ever talks about is fashion and buying clothes. It makes her seem really shallow. Apparently she needs two whole wardrobes for her clothes!
