Picking The Right Roles

Sure she may not be in a lot of movies and picking out scripts like crazy. But is chosen the right kind of roles could be helping her in prolonging her career. If you look at it that way.

Happy New Year 2016!

I don't think that it's really her choice with regards to scripts. Several actresses of color have spoken out about how difficult it is for them to find even half way decent non stereotypical roles. I think doing Star Wars was a good idea but seeing her on camera eventually would be ideal. Here's hoping she gets a role in Black Panther.

IMDB lists 2 movies for her in 2016. 2!! That's not being selective. If it is her choice than my advice to her would be take advantage of your youth and do as much as possible!!

I bet you're wondering what a place like this is doing in a girl like me-The Mummy

reply

Right you are,Kazluigi, there aren't that many roles for black or Hispanic actors. I'm glad she got a reaccuring role in Star Wars. She and Gugu are the hottest black actresses now. I'm a fan of both ladies, btw.

I don't think any choice after her Oscar win has paid off, not even Star Wars. But maybe this latest project will if it gets more publicity than just the announcement of the project.

reply

Excuse me, Kellycramer, but presently, at it stands, since her Oscar win, the only film that Lupita has starred in and that has been released to the general public is Star Wars 7.

Perhaps, you might direct me to a selection of films that you know of, and that I am ignorant of, as to how you arrived at your opinion.

That's just it... Where are her films? The way Hollywood was touting her during awards season, I wrongly assumed Lupita was going to change the mold and get these A List roles. It has been surprising and shocking that she has no live action lead role.

And yes, you are excused.

reply

I disagree. I do believe that Star Wars paid off. It got her a lot of attention and even though her role is small she still has a 2 billion dollar grossing film on her resume. Now she might do this film with Ava Durvenay.

Have things been going slowly for her? Yes but that is what happens to actresses of color. Actresses of color, particularly dark skinned ones, have to fight and claw to get even semi decent roles. She simply will not easily get the same roles that her white peers do. And unlike some on here I like quite a few of her white peers and do not blame them for Lupita not getting the same kinds offers.

Lupita is beautiful and can act, it is a fact that if she were white she would be up to her ears in leading lady offers after winning an Oscar. There is nothing Hollywood loves more than a pretty and thin woman that can act.
