I respect anyone that stands for their core beliefs.

Much respect for Luke, I hope he doesn't back-pedal. Saying things like “It is his prerogative, but he will suffer for it.”(Dan Gainor, VP of Business and Culture at the Media Research Center) is much more offensive than an actor's choosing not to play a role.

yeah but honestly, i get it when religious prunes don't want to do dirty scenes, it's probably more common than people think, but 50 Shades of Grey is dirty. I saw the trailer today, it's pure porn.

Except for the fact that he's not standing up for anything, not even his own beliefs. Grimes has not commented publicly on why he chose to leave True Blood. The only official word is from his publicist who claimed Grimes left the show to pursue other projects, NOT because his character would be in a gay relationship with another male character. In order for him to "back-pedal" he'd actually have to come out and say why he left the show first.

I was all for giving the guy the benefit of the doubt first. But after his complete silence on what happened and now Nelsan Ellis saying Grimes didn't want to play a gay character, it's becoming more and more clear that he isn't comfortable playing a gay character but doesn't want to admit that's the case. So no, he doesn't deserve credit for "standing up" for his core beliefs because that would require him to actually explain why he felt playing this character went against his beliefs.

Grimes won't be doing anything in the 50 Shades movie. He is a supporting character, not one of the main characters. He will be doing less in that movie than he did on True Blood.

And what does playing a vampire have to do with anything? Who hasn't pretended to be a vampire at some point in their life? Halloween?

WOW you are entitled huh? This dude does not owe you or anyone else an explanation. He left True Blood because of creative differences and that's exactly what they are. True Blood is a bad show anyways--there is no point in adding another gay character just to shoe-horn in another gay sex scene. This guy Luke Grimes has 5 projects in post production. I think he'll do fine.

Now I'm a fan of this dude in spite of homosexuals. I will support this guy because he's a good actor and deserves it.

Wonderful job of missing the point of my post. I said nowhere that the guy "owed" me an explanation. I was commenting on the OP's statement that Grimes is "standing up for his beliefs". Quitting a job and remaining SILENT about the reasons you chose to quite is NOT standing up for your beliefs. I am NOT saying I am entitled to an explanation. I am saying the guy does not deserve credit for standing up for what he believe in because that would mean he'd actually have to let people know what his point of view first. Get it now?

But you are judging him because of another actor's opinion. If Grimes is silent on the matter, that's his choice. Just bcos Ellis has made his opinion clear, it still shouldn't reflect on Grimes.

Ellis would have more insight on why Grimes left than any of us would. That's why I've chosen to accept what he said as the truth. He was an actor on the same show Grimes quit. He was the actor Grimes' character was supposed to have his gay storyline with. He would know better what happened then you or I would.
