Report: Yvonne will NOT be starring in the next season of 24

Honestly, I am RELIEVED by this news. It would be a bad a career move, IMO to take over the series from Kiefer. She was hesitant to do 24LAD to begin with, so I didn't think she would do this series again. There is going to be SO much negative backlash to whoever takes over the show, no matter how good he is.

As much as I loved 24, and am a huge fan of Yvonne, I think this is a very GOOD thing! She deserves better than this very limiting format would allow.

I have to agree with with you about feeling relieved. I also agree it'd be a bad career move as 24 without Bauer doesn't stand a chance IMO and I'm not even a fan of 24. I'm curious to see if the casting goes where I expect it to though I don't expect the show to do well and probably won't watch it unless Yvonne makes a guest appearance.

Whilst I didn't enjoy 24:LAD as a show I do think it gave Yvonne her best acting platform since Chuck. Hopefully this means Yvonne has something else in the pipeline.

yup. i agree with both of you.
im glad that she has passed on this. and i do say 'passed' because i believe she was groomed to take over from Keifer in LAD. i cant imagine that she wasnt at least approached for the series lead or a regular role. that would make no sense. as a character she was pretty well received as well.

Yvonne, i believe, has different plans for her career at the moment, she is probably trying to turn her energies onto movies and the like, to see if she can find her niche there, or alternatively she will probably try her hand at varied and different characters via the limited tv format which she seems to enjoy. neither of these objectives would be served by taking up the reigns of a network series that could turn into several seasons.

besides, if im honest, this spin off sounds rather tired. im not keen to watch jack junior running around yelling 'dammit'.

anyway, back to yvonne, i am fairly certain there is stuff in the pipeline there and we will hear about something new soon. holding thumbs.

One reason why I'm so relieved is that 24 actors tend to get very little career boost from being on the show. Consider the post 24 career of Annie Wersching, who had the most similar role to Yvonne during 24 (she played Renee Walker in seasons 7-8). Here's her post 24 career since she wrapped in the first couple of months of 2010:

2010: One episode each of NCIS and CSI.

2011: Partners (TV pilot that did not get picked up), one episode each of Rizzoli and Isles, Hawaii Five-0, and No Ordinary Family.

2012: Blue Eyed Butcher (TV movie), one episode of Harry's Law

2013: The Surrogate (TV movie), Body of Proof (2 episodes), Dallas (4 episodes), Castle (1 episode), Touch (1 episode), Revolution (2 episodes).

2014: Extant (6 episodes), Blue Bloods (one episode), Intelligence (1 episode)

2015: Bosch (series regular, 10 episodes. Show was renewed. This may have actually been filmed in 2014), The Vampire Diaries (8 episodes. Castle (2 episodes).

Most of the other 24 actors have similar results. I guess the format of the show just didn't allow the actors to show much range to impress casting directors. It's a shame, but I guess it shows Yvonne will likely benefit by leaving 24 after only one year.

Ok, THAT is absolutely horriying. i had no idea that it was that bad. it feels like 24 is almost the kiss of death.

i am now even more relieved that yvonne has walked away from this. (im still sticking to that theory). there are much better projects out there for her. ones that will allow her more range, and one can only hope, the opportunity to smile.

lets hope we hear about one soon.

A valid point. But a guest role as the articles hint to, is a great option IMO. She still get some publicity, she get to do what she love, she get some money in the bank and most likely she get a very good fan response** Other upsides are she don't need to take much, if any backlash for potentially bad ratings, and she don't need to invest so much time in the project either.
**Fan logic is a funny (sad) thing. A few months back when the producers teased us with a Jack-less 24 and Kate taking the lead, fans where very upset with using her. Tony was the man. But now with still a Jack-less 24, but a new lead, fans are suddenly begging for Kate to take over... And what about Tony? Tony who? 

Yeah, that's hilarious. I guess people want what they can't have. :D

Awww, I honestly really liked her on 24.
