Was she only in the pilot of this and then replaced? I like the new Annie better i think.

really? i don't get that. one of the main things that i thought was so good about the pilot when it was aired was how good the actress who played annie was, now they've replaced her and while theres nothing wrong with the replacement, theres nothing really special about her either

and yes she was only in the pilot. and you cant beat her barnsley accent - "'am a ghooast!"

You Dare Agree With Me?!

I just saw a documentary about the show and apparently between the pilot being aired and a series being commisioned she got other work and wasn't available so they recast the part.

I liked her better than the new Annie. The new Annie has nothing special about her, while Andrea's Annie was unique and quirky. Also love the accent.

You see quirky, I see annoying

It looks like the reworked Being Human after the pilot was shown was more successful.

Its that man again!!

I don't get it...

Yeah, I watch TV. I know they occassionally re-cast, and once in a while it works. This time... I don't get it.

Pilot:

The werewolf is a nevrotic, depressed guy, just about "to give up on life" (yeah, right; still dreams of being human again...) and the actor has both the skills and the looks to show the part in a gesture.

The vampire is a thin-limbed guy who's completely given up on life, but is still pulled by cravings and pushed by the fact he can't die just like that, so he might as well make living worth his while. The moment I saw the actor's face, my brain goes "Right. That's what a vampire looks like." and I felt like no other vampire wanna-be was ever gonna seem "real" again. (Vampire Diaries are decent, Twilight a bit shiny, but decent, etc., but... This is the REAL DEAL)

The ghost is a very ordinary looking girl I can relate to, not appearing the least bit dangerous or sneaky. She seems very frigthened of something, and reacts by putting on a cheery attitude and distracting herself with trivialities. The actor shows it, with a depth.

The roles mesh well, and there's definitely chemistry between the actors.
I look forward to four seasons with this amazing crew!

Episode 1.1:

The werewolf is the same, and pretty good at that.

The vampire is a beefy, wanna-be werewolf from Iraq. No relations to me, no resemblence to the character himself. The actor does not have the looks, in a degree that I can't even look at his acting. He moves the muscles around his mouth like he's about to growl all the time! Not vampire! Werewolf! The actor doesn't have a clue what the difference between werewolf and vampire is, and those that don't are best left without such roles or in the role most resembling their idea.

The ghost is suddenly this dark, gloomy, sneaky lady, whom I cannot relate to at all, on most levels. The actor doesn't seem to understand half her lines as well as she should, and the other half is merely slung out on an afterthought. The effect makes the ghost sound like a gloomy parody. The lines do NOT fit that tone of voice! Scriptwriter, you're needed!

The roles look like they're from different TV-series entirely, and the chemistry is sorely lacking!
I dread having to finish the ONE episode while I wait for the US version to arrive.

What were you thinking, re-casting like this? I DON'T GET IT!

Btw I have a course in costume, so I also got the lesson on "appearances make a character easier or more difficult. If an actor has problems getting into character, YOU probably messed up the costume. Fix it."
Is this something BBC didn't pay attention to? Or perhaps they spend all their really good people on Doctor Who? Much appreciated, but do TRY to keep the quality even.
Why lose it?

I 100% agree with you, whilst I continued to support the show by watching every episode I was very disappointed that they recast those 2 roles.

Maybe the vampire was too dark, but the replacement had no depth, and the new ghost was non-descript.

I wonder if they hadn't recast if it would have been an even bigger hit in the UK.

Thanks and good night. XxX Love and light.
