Is anyone else disappointed with Taylor's role in True Detective

I feel let down, because I had high hopes for seeing Taylor in TD season 2. I was thinking that this would be his chance to give us an iconic and resonating performance. But the writing for his character was so weak. They made it seem like he would have a huge importance to the storyline, but ultimately it lead to no where. They could have written Paul Woodrugh out of the storyline and nothing would have been impacted.

For what it's worth, I did think season 2 was good. TK did a good job with the material he was given. I just wasn't expecting that what they would give him would be so little.

I felt a little duped with his character as well. He played it well, gave all the complexities that someone struggling with PTSD and being secretly gay might have. That wasn't the issue. It was the writing and the material he was given, which was basically nothing. I've seen some people mention Paul was meant to be a outsider, which is fine, but even then he just felt like he was just there. No importance at all, it was like they threw the character in the last minute.

That's exactly what it seemed like! Like they just wanted to add someone in for filler, so they decided to throw his character into the storyline.

The real shame is that they didn't have to do that. They could have made him this awesome character that was the key to everything. I mean why would they give "Paul" the least amount of story time, the least engaging, then take him no where? Why?

I am so disappointed that Taylor Kitsch didn't get his breakthrough in this. He could have been awesome, but now he's just known as that gay cop in TD 2. So sad.

It wasn't the same writers as season 1. Season 2's down fall was that they had a team of writers amd directors. I did like his character, he played it well but I expected more character depth.

This is incorrect. there were no team of writers on either season. Both were nick pizzalota. Pizzalota doesn't just throw characters in, woodrugh was a intricate part of the story. Kitsch did awesome imo.

Considering he's simply awful in everything he's in, he was exactly as expected.
