Riz...a man of MANY talents

I just checked out Riz, Heems and producer/musician Redhino (Swet Shop Boys) recent live performances on YouTube. Do check them out! You won't be disappointed!

Their performances were taped during their recent live concert for the BBC Asian Network: "Swet Shop Boys (Riz Ahmed, Heems & Redhino) perform the first release from their debut album, Cashmere, exclusively for BBC Asian Network"

Riz can also SING. A few years ago, Riz was asked about his singing, but he demurred talking about it! He actually has a great singing voice. Is there anything this guy can't do?! He acts, sings, raps, writes scripts, directs etc.

Riz has the lead vocal on a song called "Aaja", which is basically a rap love song. This song, as well as the rest of the live performances from this session...are up at YouTube....as well as the other recent Swet Shop Boys videos Riz has done with Heems.

Enjoy!

btw, Riz does NOT perform the lead vocal on the album version of "Aaja",

The singer, Ali Sethi, a fantastic up and coming singer from Pakistan, performs the "Aaja" lead vocal on the "Cashmere" album.

Riz has confirmed this in an interview: "I started singing this hook, "Aaja o meri jaan e man, aaja o meri..." which means, "Come here, my beloved / Come here, my heart is thirsty." I sang the kind of temp hook on it until we managed to get hold of Ali Sethi, who's an incredible rising singer in Pakistan. He really elevated the whole thing."

Just wanted to clear that up, nevertheless....Riz' live vocal is awesome and he clearly has singing ability. He has a sexy raspy singing voice, hope he's not a smoker, but he sure sounds like one! 

Are you his PR/publicist?

 I wish, because I'd like to guide him as to what he's been doing wrong lately! Such as working extremely hard keeping his current relationship out of the media, which is absurd...that behaviour only makes his fans more curious. Riz makes sure any mention, or photo, of his girlfriend is immediately deleted from his Twitter, Instagram. If someone else posts a pic of her or of them together, he stops following that person. Guess he will, yet again, be solo, at any red carpet events...I digress...

Actually, I'm a long time fan, who initially didn't recognize that was Riz in "The Night Of". The weight gain, muscles and Queens NY accent really threw me off. Then, as I went through the list of his work...I realized I already knew him through a lot of his films and UK TV shows.

Check out the very short film "Baghdad Express", he is very impressive in this short, the chemistry with the female lead is great. Even back then, I could see he was a great actor. I'd enjoy seeing him work with Georgina Leonides again. This short is up at YouTube.

As far as publicists, agents etc posting here, yes they DO actually sometimes post here, you never know who is posting at IMDb. A close friend's best friend is a Hollywood publicist, they do read and post here, usually just to get an idea what fans post about.

WTF

WTF what, Julie_Julii?

You asked if I was Riz's publicist, I answered your question.

I also added some commentary about his private life as well as a suggestion that you check out a short film Riz did years ago. Plus other info. You didn't appear to be an actual fan of his, thought I'd give you a heads up, no harm in that.

Did any of what I posted warrant a glib, "WTF" response? Sometimes I do have to wonder why people post at IMDb, especially when they don't have any interest in an engaging dialog. This place is filled with annoying trolls.

Yes, there are many in show business who actually do post here at IMDb. Some won't be as nice and informative as I am.

Sorry if my glib response offended you but I was not expecting such a verbose response.

No need to read too much into it because people aren't as diehard about something as you are. For what it's worth I am a Riz fan which was why I came to this board and often find that OTT superfans can be as disconcerting as trolls.

You do you, but maybe chill out?

You do you, but maybe chill out? I work in advertising, I also write copy for a living. Which explains why my posts are "verbose". I enjoy writing. Yeah, I know, "get a blog". 

I also enjoy posting info about the talented performers I enjoy, especially as so many truly terrible people in showbiz, get famous for doing little. The KarTrashians anyone? I still don't know what this shallow ignorant talent-free family actually does to garner all the attention....except get in and out of limos, take selfies....

Online and at forums, people always have the option to "pass on through" and to not read what others posts.

Riz is an amazing actor, he needs all the positive press and accolades he gets. Riz might get lost in the shuffle of all the tiresome and predictable 'movie stars' who are constantly shoved down the public's throat....you know, the types of actors and actresses who make 10+ movies a year, most of which are usually terrible.

I hope Riz gets a Golden Globe as well as a SAG award. As well as an Emmy. The dedication to his craft is amazing, if anyone truly deserves these awards, it's Riz. He's one of the few actors, in a long time, who sincerely deserves all the positivity he receives from the media and from fans of great acting.

Namaste.

Hey I get it. It's great to see an underrated talent you've long admired get the exposure and acclaim you always knew they deserved.

That was certainly the case for me over the last couple of years when Brie Larson and Oscar Isaac blew up.
