Dornan's Acting: Two Words Can Be Very Powerful

Eleven seconds into this (poor quality) video, Christian utters two words to Anastasia. His face and his voice convey so many emotions but I will leave it to you to decide which ones come to the fore for you.

Dornan is a fantastic actor and his beautiful eyes are so expressive.

Don't tell me you love animals if that's cow muscle on your plate.

Seriously I feel so sorry for him. He has been bashed once again thanks to fifty

He was bashed the first time around thanks to Fifty. This time around, I think he rose to the challenge and managed to come out looking better than before, which should go a long way, considering. Loosening the reign to allow him to put a little of his own personality into that character was a great choice. I think he did great.

But, there were times I wish he could've just had a fully loaded stare rather than the dialogue, like the scene when Ana asks, 'Are you going to stand there watching?'. I think instead of saying anything, he would've done better with a hint of a smile, then letting it fall, allowing the desire on his face to speak for itself. In some cases, it's sexier to imagine what someone's thinking rather than it being described in every detail.

Sexiness resides in the mystery, not necessarily in the reveal. Sometimes a look is more telling than words could ever be.

Sure he smiles a bit more, but the robotic voice is still awful, his nightmare "no's" are laughable!

When he says no, that's when his natural accent seems to come out. His voice slightly goes up at the end. Like after his initial explosion when Ana arrives from her three hour walk, and the scene gets serious again, it was there. I wonder if that was one of the earlier scenes shot, because they had the least amount of chemistry and his accent was a little rough. Other than that, I didn't find him really robotic.

He doesn't seem able to do scenes in his American accent where it calls for him to be angry or upset!

reply

I don't know what's so hard about the American accent. Is it really that hard to do? The Canadians seem to pull it off effortlessly, so really, how hard can it be?

But going back to that scene, the worst offender wasn't Jamie's accent or the seriously rushed scene, it was Dakota's attempt at being dramatic. That was for me the biggest cringe worthy moment of the two hours. Her forced expression and no tears, right before he puts her hand on his chest, should've either been redone or cut out. What's worse is they used that clip in their commercials leading up to the big release.

Agree also when she was washing the lipstick of him in the shower and looks at his burns going "who would do this to you?" so forced and fake plus when they are reunited after the helicopter crash, the forced crying again LOL!

Don't forget her sex scenes . There were times I'd like to have seen Spector appear and put a pillow over her head to mute that $hit out. I mean for real, that elevator scene? She would've done better being quiet and holding her head back and letting the expressions speak for themselves. She was in an elevator with many other people. How did they not hear her or feel her hot breath on the back of their necks? That scene was just too implausible, they should've kept the pool table scene in.

In her dramatic scenes, there were times she was believable, like when she witnessed Christian and Leila together. That was probably her strongest scene she's ever done. So maybe the others were done earlier on. That's the only way I can figure out why there's such a drastic difference betweeen the two.
