Don't watch New Girl (but caught a random final scene before Mindy started) and was startled to hear Hindi coming out of her mouth. Does anyone know if she is actually half Indian? The Anglo name threw me off.

Yes, she's half Indian. Her dad is Indian and her mom is English with German, Italian, and Greek Cypriot decent.
