Adams and Chastain belong to previous generation (Blanchett, Winslet, Cotillard, Theron). You can put Alicia Vikander, Scarlett Johansson, Emma Stone, Brie Larson, Saoirse Ronan, Kristen Stewart and Elle Fanning on the list also.

Oh hi Mortimer! :)
Yes, I had thought about it, but only Adams could be, I feel, placed in the generation prior. But then I decided against it because she, despite her age, had a late start in her career. The other actresses you had mentioned, except for maybe Scarlett Johansson, are not that accomplished yet (critically). Though Vikander is getting there extremely fast! Her one-two punch with 'Ex-Machina' and 'The Danish Girl' last year alone and this year's 'Between the Oceans' alone gets her to B+ collectively.

I understand your classification. I rather use the year of their birth. By "previous generation" I mean on actresses born between 1969-1980. "New generation"are actresses born in the 1981-1990 period. But it's not definite rule, of course - Michelle Williams was born in 1980 and she is in my "New" group. Naomi Watts in 1968 but belongs to "1970s" generation, opposed to Nicole Kidman (1967) who is basically the same age as Watts and Blanchett but she had much earlier start then both of them. Many more examples.

I use the same rule for actors also.

Finally someone who speaks the same language as me, Mortimer! It's been a while... That's because our Cate 'has gotten lazy' and doesn't have much in production/ pre production lol.

You're right. But don't forget that Cate has a little daughter now so it is very possible that short break is coming (similar to 2008-2013 period).

I'm looking forward to that Lucille Ball biopic. Hope they'll make something of it very soon.
