I just watched Side Effects for the first time

And it surprised me a bit. For a long time I wasn't interested about it, something about the tone of the marketing material or the synopsis turned me off. At last I gave it a chance and it was on netflix

Man I wanted Rooney to get away!

I liked her in Side Effects. It showed many aspects of her talent I think. Loved the sleepwalking zombie part! Favourite part was her last dialogue with Zeta-Jones when Rooney said "You thaught me to be a sad girl" (or something like that) and switching from a sad face to a happy expression.

She has an exceptionally expressive face. Most of her talent lies in her ability to do a lot with just slight and subtle shifts in her face. It what makes her so fun to watch, especially in this movie where as a viewer you're trying to figure out what is she upto for almost the entire film.

As much as I loved the twist, part of me wanted to see the version of the film where it carried through with the initial premise of the film. As somebody who's had to deal with anxiety and depression, Rooney's performance in the first half of the film genuinely got under my skin. The word "triggered" has been completely misappropriated by the internet, but that kind of sums up how her performance made me feel. I wouldn't say the twist surprised me that much, since I heard that there was some kind of "twist", but even with that fact hovering in the back of my mind, her struggling to deal day to day almost gave me a genuine panic attack and discomfort while watching the film, which I guess goes to show what a skillfully manipulative little sociopath her character is XD
