Amazing Actress.

I think Eleanor is absolutely fantastic in Poldark.

Delmelza is a beautiful character that brings something very special to the show. She is adorable.

I think the first thing I saw Eleanor Tomlinson in was Alice in Wonderland, and since then have seen her in Jack the Giant Slayer, The White Queen, Death Comes to Pemberley and, of course, Poldark. I’ve enjoyed her in everything I’ve seen her in, and have always been keeping a lookout for her in other stuff. I agree wholeheartedly that she is an amazing actress and fantastic in Poldark. All throughout the first season she kept wowing me more and more with her performance, there were so many wonderful moments with her character/between Demelza and Ross. Eleanor Tomlinson and Aidan Turner have amazing chemistry together. I also agree that it’s always interesting to watch how she acts in a scene and she’s full of surprises. I will say that the most emotionally effective moment in the show so far, for me, has been when Demelza learned of what had happened to her daughter in the Season 1 final. The way she broke down as she exclaimed “Oh, Ross!” really got to me. Not many moments in shows have this effect, try as they might. It was all in her delivery, I thought.

We’ve nearly finished Season 2 where I am (only one episode left to go), and...well...**spoilers for the season if you haven’t watched it yet**...The Ross/Demelza relationship has certainly been put through the wringer. Demelza is such a great character, brought to life so wonderfully by Eleanor. I’m sure there’ll be those who defend Ross’s behavior towards the end of the season, but honestly? Her punching him after she’d learned what he’d done with Elizabeth was a “Hell yeah!” moment, imho. I loved that it wasn’t just your typical garden variety punch either, but that she’d been facing away from him and then spun around and hit him (it looked like she hit him with the back of her fist to me) – THAT was somewhat unexpected (I knew full-well she’d whack him, I just didn’t expect the decking of Ross to be so glorious in its execution). Like others have previously said, I could have watched Demelza punching Ross on loop.

As has been pointed out elsewhere, Demelza had been managing everything at home whilst also helping out the townsfolk, she’d stuck with Ross through *so* much, and then for him to betray her so completely? Not to mention his lame excuse of, "You must see I had no choice." – he deserved so much MORE than the simple decking she gave him. Apart from the punch itself, one other great moment in the episode was when Demelza said to Elizabeth something about “to make sure she returns him when she's done with him.” (in reference to Ross). Eleanor played all the underlying emotions that Demelza was barely able to keep contained SO well. Just watching all of Eleanor’s/Demelza’s facial expressions and the feelings she’s conveying through them are fascinating to me. Episode 9 was quite satisfying to watch, with Demelza giving Ross the verbal smackdown he deserved and especially the “pride” speech, which was a thing of beauty. It was so well stated/delivered by her. There just isn’t enough praise to do justice for Eleanor’s portrayal of Demelza in the show. It certainly wouldn’t be half the show it is without her.
