the real example of jesus christ

come on christians ... i get the sympathy with jesus,
but jesus might not have ever existed, and if he did
he sure and hell was not magic. the more evolved a
religion is the more pragmatic it is and the less it must
rely on magic and myths and the supernatural.

anyway, another way of looking at it is that christianity
became a thing under the romans. how did the most
brutal hierarchical mechanistic, money drive and corrupt
nation in history ( well, one of them anyway ) decide to
adopt a pacifistic religion like christianity?

because it teaches people to "render unto caesar", that is
be a peaceful working, and by the way at the time that
pretty much meant being a slave or certainly without any
actual civil rights, and trust in your reward in the hereafter.

it was political brainwashing for the naive, surrounded by
all kinds of mystical ideas, romantic notions of humanism,
and the same kind of promise of reward as the muslims get
if they sacrifice themselves to the nation. this notion of a
better more civilized system than slavery, but without anything
real about drove the western world for many centuries. it
was a brilliant political innovation by the romans.

sadly it still works the same today.

the plain truth is that the message is be like jesus and you
had better be ready and willing to give up everything you have
including your life and get murdered for going against the
establishment.

this is what happens when you copy paste a text someone else wrote and screw up the formatting

reply

nah, I just wrote that off the top

you like cut and paste ... cut and paste and search and tell me who else wrote that?

reply

And this is what happens when a dogmatic mind encounters something that threatens their dogma. Deny, deflect, disparage !

reply

he does exist it takes faith

reply

He exists for a purpose outside your existence ... i.e. your easy exploitation.

reply

it's not exploitation its a relationship

reply

A one sided relationship. Religions tells you what to do, and you do it, or you suffer the consequences if you rebel ... even if you are right. That is the whole point of Jesus. It is like, sure, be a martyr if you want to die.

reply

This my relationship status at the moment this is true christianity right here

reply

True Christianity is following what´s in the Bible.

Not this, "that seeks to reform the faith via the insights of post-modernism and a reclaiming of the truth beyond the verifiable historicity and factuality of the passages in the Bible by affirming the truths within the stories that may not have actually happened."

reply

Thanks for solving the problem.

reply

It takes faith to believe in werewolves too.

Well remember that the Romans resisted Christianity at first. You've heard of them throwing Christians to the lions and all that, right?
That's likely not true, apparently, but they DID view Christianity as somewhat of a threat to their way of governance and treated its followers with some disdain...at least for the few hundred years it took for their emperor Constantine to convert to the religion himself.

There's some History Channel show, "The Rise of Christianity" that does a pretty good job at describing the "why" of how Christianity likely took off, and one of the most popular theories is that Christianity was the first religion that really appealed to the underclass, the poorest people, of which there were shitloads in Roman society. For the reason you stated, but also because apparently the religion that was popular at the time required some status for involvement...it was difficult for the poorer people to participate in.

Along comes a religion that's like, "Hey poor people, guess what? Its you...the meek, the dirty broke bastards, that the kingdom of heaven belongs to!" And people were like, "Uh...you're goddamn right it does!" and flocked into the flock.

Anyway, I would guess that Jesus did actually exist, but he became more than just a man as his legend grew.

reply

Well said. Religion is bent into the shape required to make it a tool of control over the masses. A giveaway is how the emphasis is on sin and how the individual is to blame for what goes wrong in their lives. The elite sit back and say " It's not us, it's you ". Which is a classic piece of misdirection with the added bonus of making the masses not only inward looking but it also turns them against themselves. They become their own jailers. It's fiendishly brilliant !

To be fair, Jesus preached forgiveness. The message was right, but so is the Constitution ... and we had slavery at the time. People can contort their psyches all kinds of different ways, but the thing about religion and any political establishment is that their elites are better nourished, taught more, armed better, and they have knowledge of people, meaning they can manipulate people with techniques learned over the ages.

That is one reason the whole surveillance society we have right now is so dangerous. Whoever figured out best how to manipulate people wins, and cannot be attacked.

reply

What an odd response. In your OP you said "Jesus might not have ever existed" and now you're saying he preached forgiveness. Seems like you have a little inconsistency going on in your mind.

And the message of forgiveness is far from right. If people are routinely forgiven there is no incentive for them to stop doing the wrong thing. And that's just peachy dandy for people who make an art form out of it.

The meek will never inherit the earth, that's just a straight out lie planted by Machiavellian types to encourage people to be pushovers. Retribution is what's needed to correct the distortion in the human race's way of life, and plenty of it. And the people who should be on the receiving end of the retribution know who they are.

reply

People misconstrue what is meant by forgiveness in the Bible. I myself have been guilty of it. Forgiveness requires repentance from the wrongdoer. Your sins are forgiven by Jesus but only if you repent for them.
Luke 17:3-4 So watch yourselves. “If your brother or sister sins against you, rebuke them; and if they repent, forgive them. 4 Even if they sin against you seven times in a day and seven times come back to you saying ‘I repent,’ you must forgive them.”

reply

Don't be daft, whether or not Jesus existed as a person, there is a record of someone. Your weak foolishness is what is the odd response.

reply

Yes it takes faith to trust our lives and souls into the divinity of Jesus, and many throughout history do not have that faith. But even they know he existed. He is a historical figure, not an urban legend. It would be like saying George Washington probably never existed.

reply

I was raised Catholic and learned the Old and New Testaments.

As the years wore on I became less interested in the story of God and Jesus as I started to realize what a hateful and deceiving deity God is in the Bible. I also never felt any guilt for being born with original sin or any notion of grace and appreciation that Jesus died "for me". What a bullshit guilt mechanism that is to "win your faith".

reply

Yes it's ridiculous. What are people guilty of that would require Jesus to be crucified for ? The whole concept of blood sacrifice is absurd anyway. It is as you say a cynical way to trap people into guilt and control them.

reply

Maybe Jesus wasn't magic, but he sure as Hell knew when to use Capitol letters.

reply

Lol, you kids!!! I love these think tank threads, full of people who are "too smart" for God.
