The years are catching up

Saw some pics of her in the latest Penny Dreadful series and was shocked. Past her prime in my opinion.

Considering that people are living to be over 100, when is a woman's prime? 18? So someone over 35 is just suddenly no longer desirable? Why don't we just euthanize women when they hit 30 and then men would never have to have their eyesight graced with a woman who is past her prime.

reply

Prime literally mean the first, the best, the most youthfull period...

Dormer is 38. Basically entering middle age. But I suspect the OP might be joking about this photo https://www.imdb.com/title/tt10361016/mediaviewer/rm2545070849 of what I assume is her playing some time of frumpy alter-ego character... She looks pretty good in other photos...

it doesn't mean the rest of her years aren't worthwhile... or that people won't be lusting after her for years to come (people are for far less attractive and far older women)... She's plenty good looking... or that she has nothing to offer but her looks...

it just means that compared to her best years, she's not as youthfully beautiful (in the Op's estimation)... this will be the case regardless of how many centuries she lives to be, or how good nutrition and cosmetic surgery is (i hope she stays natural)...

People still line up to watch Judy Dench and Meryl Streep act... not for their looks (although Streep did do a romcom with Alec Baldwin not too long ago)...

No one is casting Jude Law as the pretty boy anymore, now that he is old and bald... Yet he is still a great actor (Black Sea was solid) and, according to my female friends, still handsome (they're all watching the Young Pope)... Yes. It would be correct to say that he is past his "prime". It doesn't mean he is no longer worthwhile...

reply

No. Prime means THE BEST. Infanthood is not the best. Geez, you are a dimwit.

reply

no one mentioned children... that's gross...

you seem upset at the world for valuing women's youth, i.e. their best period... it's the nature of our species... i suggest you come to terms with it... or not... it won't change reality that a woman's prime is much younger than 38 years old...

So you don’t know the line from Robert Browning’s poem, “The last of life, for which the first was made.”
And you do not share Asian culture’s reverence and respect for age and accumulated experience and wisdom. You unfamiliar with Mark Twain’s jape, “When I was 20, I couldn’t believe how stupid my father was. By the time I was 30, I was very impressed with how much the Old Man has learned.” And you’ve never slept with a mature woman who actually knows how to rock your world, I guess. I envy you. You have so much to anticipate in your future.

reply

I don't disagree with any of what you said... but even old wise men recognise that a woman's prime beauty years are her youth...

reply

Final try at the Philistine: Beauty is more than meets the eye. Beauty is the totality of one’s substance, and it comes from the inside, from one’s soul, substance and experience. Now I am done with you.

reply

"Prime" comes from Latin, "Primus", meaning "first".

Go on and call others dimwits...
Also, a WOMAN in her prime is obviously not referring to an infant.

Jesus it's too easy to insult you, so I just skip that part.

reply

i think 30s are womens prime age thats not a bad thing

reply

there are certainly a lot of beauties that come into their own at that age...

reply

I have to agree with the OP. I saw some photos of her from recent times without the makeup and such and she wasn't aging very well. Her face looked like she was way way too thin. If I hadn't know better I might have thought she had been very sick or something. She really could use about 5 or 10 pounds of weight which might help her face fill out a bit because now it looks bony.

reply

who feeds their cats then?

reply

Why stop at women? Let's just euthanize everyone who is not good looking, rich and successful. The ugly poor losers are living shitty, unhappy lives and wasting precious resources < /sarcasm >

reply

she is 38 so is Natalie Portman they still dont look bad

reply

OP didn't say she looked bad only that she was past her prime, which she is. I don't think I can think of any woman that wasn't past their prime by the time they reached their late thirties.

reply

OP is a sad, lonely misogynist troll.

reply

lol

reply

Yep. Like quite a few on this board. It's a bit depressing actually.

reply

Not just a bit. It's freaking sad. Talk about a useless post!

reply

How did you get "sad, lonely misogynist troll" out of the OP's post?

reply

I got a "happy troll" vibe from the OP.

reply

Because no one who makes shallow, mean-spirited threads like this lives a happy life.

reply

This is correct, He probably lives in some trailer park in the middle of fuckhead nowhere.

reply

A lot of people live in trailer parks. I wouldn't dismiss them out-of-hand.

reply

I understand why you would post that but may I say something too? This is a movie chat board is it not? I am talking about Natalie Dormer the actress. And whether you like it or not an actor's appearance is important in Hollywood.

Now again this isn't Natalie's personal website so it's not like I'm addressing it to her directly. It's a third party website. Do you know her personally? I'm sure she's a lovely person. She was absolutely stunning in Captain America and Rush. All kinds of remarks are passed on male actors yet the slightest comment on a female one's appearance and you're a misogynist.

reply

Do women really discuss how male actors get older and uglier?

reply

Most of the girls I know like older dudes... I know 38 year olds who still think old man George Clooney is "yummy"...

Same goes for Antonio Banderas...

These women are 20 years younger than these guys...

The sexes don't consider attraction in the same way as one another, despite what contemporary culture tries to instruct us...

reply

The years will catch up with you one day too if they haven't already.

reply

Indeed.

reply

Pictures of Natalie from Penny Dreadful. Interesting. She is in makeup, making her look less like the woman she REALLY is. And so because of that, some people make age related inferences. Let's see how they hold up when they get "old".

reply

Have to laugh at all the offended comments on here. It's like you're not supposed to discuss anything negative about her. It's a discussion board. She has a sub forum here. What's with the censorship? Why so precious about her?

Jesus Christ has a sub forum on this site (I know right?) and some of the comments there are far worse than mine but there's nowhere near the same outrage.

Multiple comments here reacting as if I had said it about their own mother rather than a celebrity working in the public domain.

reply

You see, the mistake you have made here is caring what other people think of your opinion.
Don't.

reply

Bingo. Former players FOUR DIFFERENT CHARACTERS in Penny Dreadful, one of whom is an intentionally mousey and frumpy Machiavellian type. Which pics are we looking at?

reply

She's 40 now!
