Federer playing on clay

The past couple of years Federer skipped the clay court season, due to his age, the beating clay takes on a body, and wanting to be fresh for the grass court season.

I think this is his farewell tour, he is gearing up for the French Open, which will be his last. I can't think of any other reason why he would prepare and play in the FO.

It certainly looks like it'll be his farewell to clay. Having won 3 Slams on grass and hard courts in the last couple of seasons, I'm not sure he wouldn't stick around on the other surfaces a bit longer.

Yea I'm back tracking on the retirement comment. He just went to back to back Master 1000 finals, winning in Miami. Best out of 5 is different, but I think he can pull out one more Wimbledon.
