Is Andy Samberg white?

Andy Samberg is Jewish, but does that make him white? A lot of people think Jews are white because they look very similar to everyone else. The truth is, Jews are the same ethnicity as Arabs, but we wouldn't call them white, so why do we consider Jews to be white? All Jews originated from the area that present-day Iraq occupies. From there, over thousands of years, they spread out to places like Europe, but because they pretty much only married into the faith, i.e. other Jews, they kept their unique, non-white ethnicity. The only Jews who aren't white are those who convert.

Because their skin is white. Or light. For the most part.

I never could understand for the longest time how Italians or Spaniards could consider themselves white, but it's the same thing. It is what it is.

White is a color not an ethnicity. In America, it's kind of a cultural identity. Here, "back in the day" many ethnic folks shed some of their ethnic or nationalistic identifiers like their names or languages, etc to "assimilate" into being white. Some of course kept some heritage in their family traditions but the rest of it was kind of shed in the first generation and definitely future generations.

If you look at what the English did to the French in Canada way back then, it wasn't about skin color to be considered "other". Because they were all the same color. It was language and religion and national background. Now, languages and religion are for the most part not in the forefront (with the exception of Islam for obvious reasons but which also happens to be primarily practiced by non-white people). When you look at the Boston bombers, all of a sudden people here were proclaiming them not to be white because they were muslim and terrorists.

Whites not a color. It's the absence of color. Black is the absence of light

Judaism is a culture and a religion, it isn't a race or ethnicity. Christianity and Islam were born in the same region but you wouldn't argue a Christian can't be white, they must be Arab because all Christians come from there. Granted, being Jewish is something you can convert to but it's still considered only truly acknowledged by many if you are born to a mother who is Jewish (or part Jewish). But even then, you can go to any part of the world and find people that are Jewish and have lived there for multiple generations and are whatever ethnicity inhabits that region because it is very rare to find any Jews that have managed to marry within original, Middle Eastern Jewish families *exclusively* for their entire familial existence. Since Judaism is something you are born to but only traces through the mothers side (it's matrilineal ...really, IMDB spell check doesn't know that word?...anyway, Judaism is matrilineal since you could only prove 100% who the mother was of the child, not the father) and you cannot expect every Jewish female from the Middle East to marry ONLY other Jews during the diaspora and last several thousands of years out and about in other nations.

In short, he is white and he is a Jew, unless he states otherwise (i.e. Lithuanian-American, as his famous grandfather was descended from Lithuanians).

You couldn't tell the difference between most European Jews or non-Jews. They just look like any non-Jewish white person so yeah, they're just as white as any other European.

Why does it matter?
Or are you just troll baiting?

"Jewish" can mean religious/cultural identity or it can mean ethnicity. It does not always mean both. Jews of European descent are Ashkenazi, not true ethnic Jews.
