Why was he SO TERRIBLE in Oldboy?!

Was in Spike Lee's fault? Or was this just a bad egg in the world of Copley? What happened?

reply

Yes he was undeniably BAD.Kinda destroyed the whole movie for me.He did the same thing in Elysium too. This is very disappointing because i liked this guy in District 9.

reply

Okay, yeah I feel the same way- though I thought Elysium was kind of bad in general. Thought he was great in District 9. But it really made me mad about Oldboy because I thought Brolin and Olsen were so great, and then there was Copley.

reply

I haven´t seen Oldboy (and not planning to) but I thought he was basically the only best thing about Elysium and from what I heard (and read), I am not the only one. I guess with Elysium, it is really very subjective.

reply

I personally think he was great in Elysium

reply

I agree---I thought he owned Elysium!

reply

Sharlto was brilliant in Elysium.

reply

I liked him quite a bit in Oldboy.

He was certainly over the top, but he was playing a creepy psychopath, that was kinda the point.

Have you seen the original Oldboy?

Imo Copley was the only good part of the American remake.

His counter part in the Korean film was very much the flamboyant playboy that Copely portrayed.

Everything else about American Oldboy was total crap, sans Copely.
