Oscar Snub for Suffragette

I saw Suffragette yesterday and it was a really great, moving and inspiring film but above all comes Carey's performace. It's maybe one of the biggest Oscar snubs of the recent years. I cannot understand why they didn't nominate her, not to mention that it would propably deserved the win if she had a nomination.
Maud Watts was her toughest role so far and her greatest performance including An Education and Shame (and I'm a big fan of those films as well as Carey's entire filmography). She really nailed the part... it was a pure Oscar Gold performance! She even received a Hollywood Best Actress Award for her work and a BIFA Best Actress Nomination. Why all the other Award associations forgot her? It was because she didn't campaign a lot or because of Suffragette's subject matter...? She was even better that Saoirse Ronan in Brooklyn and Charlotte Rampling in 45 Years...!! Thoughts !??!

I thought she was wonderful too. And I also thought she was fantastic in Far From The Madding Crowd. She's had a great year!

But I think it just goes to show what a strong year it's been for actresses. It's been so competitive, which is a nice change. It's usually the actor's categories that are more interesting.

I wonder if it's just the usual story - they didn't have enough money to campaign for her role or the movie generally, whereas the other movies did...?

Focus can actually be pretty aggressive with its campaigning and it was no different with Suffragette. She attended roundtables, Q&As, dinners etc... but the campaign ended up backfiring because the support wasn't there for the film. While she got raves, the film didn't and the poor box office was the last straw despite the timely subject matter. The Danish Girl, despite similar reviews, was also with the same distributor but that film simply had more buzz and kinda stole its thunder.

That was the reason why Alicia Vikander went supporting because they initially pushed Carey in the lead category.

It's an ordinary high school day. Except that it's not.
