Prince Philip’s funeral

I can’t imagine that H will not attend— it would be such a terrible thing for him to miss it. But wow, will it be awkward.

I really feel badly for the queen. Prince Philip was in hospital when the Oprah interview was broadcast. It seems, now, that the hospital might have released him so he could die peacefully home. QE2 has had a rough time over the past couple of months, and this heavy blow will be hard to bear. H & M will probably make things worse for her.

reply

awkward for sure, was thinking the same thing. i would think they would have to attend or be ostracized.

reply

Maybe they can pay Meghan not to attend.

reply

Meghan not going because she's pregnant. Harry will.

reply

I read QE2 and automatically think of the ship and wondered why it was having a hard time. Which is silly given the context but the association is so strong.

reply

That's because QE2 *is* a ship. A more appropriate abbreviation might have been "QE II". Or OP could have just written "The queen".

reply

She'll be staying back in L.A. but participate via live feed. She will also read an anti racism statement dealing with Philip's numerous offensive remarks throughout the years.

reply

Heh, if she wants to address someone’s past offensive racist remarks, she should start with her husband’s.

reply

I don't like her and would love another reason to criticize her, but I can't criticize a pregnant woman for not flying. That's perfectly valid.

reply

Of course.

reply

For Meg to stay home is both the practical thing to do, and the gracious thing. Funerals are for the living, and I dont think any of the bereaved attending like her one bit.

I just hope Harry finds it in himself to be gracious as well, instead of his usual spoiled twat self.

reply

What if Harry lunges at William across Philip's open coffin, wrestling him to the ground, with the fracas causing the coffin to be knocked, resulting in their grandfather's body rolling limply out into the centre of the isle?

That would be a horrific shock which I don't think the Royal Family would ever recover from.

Hopefully, despite his uncontrollable seething anger, Harry will know better. If violence does indeed come to pass though, perhaps the United Kingdom would then have no choice but to consider an alternative, more dignified family to act as it's ceremonial figurehead .

reply

Queen Elizabeth is great! She can't help it if she has a knucklehead for a grandson who married and became enchanted by a narcissist. Thankfully he's the spare.

BTW, your scenario reminds me of the best of Dynasty.

reply

Her Majesty is such a gracious woman to have suffered in silence over the years in regard to the shenanigans of some of the more doofus members of her family. I suppose her good manners did not rub off on some of them.

As for Meghan's pregnancy given as a valid "reason' not to attend the funeral...as the Brits say, balderdash! It's not as though she is being asked to row a boat across the Atlantic. These people travel in serious style. Cripes, Harry could pay an obstetrician to accompany them.

I don't buy her excuse. My own mother had a very difficult pregnancy with my youngest sister. We had moved out of state to be close to where my dad worked. In the meantime, his mother had a serious operation and was bedridden for a while. Every weekend we'd pile in the car and drive two hundred miles to come home because my dad wanted to see her.

Excuse me for not feeling sympathy for Meghan.

It didn't include any machine guns though!
