What happens if Meghan Markle returns to acting?

Three casting professionals weigh in on whether the Suits alum's "Megxit" from the Royal family can mean she can return to acting or even star in a reality show.

We all suffer. That's what happens.
Harry was the hero we needed and the hero we deserved by taking MM to a far away land. Now she's coming back.

She can't return to acting, she's now so famous that she can no longer disappear into a character. That happens to actors who get completely and utterly overexposed, once they become instantly recognizable all they can do is cameos and camp. Look at Liz Taylor's later years, for the kind of roles that are open to the famous-for-being-famous.

And that's why Harry was asking the CEO of Disney for voice work for the little wife, not acting roles.

Markle was never an in-demand actor - Her career high point was a secondary role on a basic cable television series. There wasn't much of a demand for Markle's acting before , so there's no reason to believe that it's going to be a boom market for her now.

Her range is very limited - She's not a Shakespearean, she's not a comedian, she's moving past the sexpot roles due to aging, and she really wouldn't “fit" into sci fi or action films. Basically her range limited her roles before, and that was when she was working full time at her craft. She been “off" for a while, and that's not going to help.

There aren't many roles out there - Markle is nearly 40 and in Hollywood, unless the female performer is a serious box office draw, that means “mommy", “best friend”, and even “grandma” roles. Markle, despite her tabloid fame, will still have to compete with younger and better looking actors, and that was apparently a problem even before her current situation.

Her race - Hollywood is a very racist place, and Markle's career isn't immune to that. It was difficult to cast her before as she's not “White", and yet she's really not “Black” enough to fit in the limited roles available to female African American actors. Failing a sea change in the industry, Markle will again be facing the same ugly issues that she did prior to her marriage.

Her family - While they have been oddly silent for the past year or so, Markle's family is a smoldering dumpster conflagration that's waiting to flare up. There aren't too many production companies or networks which are looking to start an expensive project, only to have the media tie it to the family problems of its lead performer. If Markle was already a bigger box office draw, then most might be willing to risk it. She isn't, and so many won't.

She only had bit parts till 2011. Here's the only movie I found with leading role: https://moviechat.org/tt1586525/Random-Encounters

Judging from the Bob Iger tape, she's got a Prince of England acting as her agent - she may be cast in something yet.

I bet casting agents are pounding on her door: Hey, we can get a real Princess into our film!

Facts: she's almost 40 years old and has been trying to break into acting since she was 18. And despite having a ton of connections, despite selling herself as a ‘brand model’ (people they hire to wear hats & t-shirts with the name of the energy drink or new fitness equipment) and walk around parties - sort of like a walking commercial but you might have the opportunity to meet someone influential, despite paying to attend parties where you're promised the possibility of maybe running into someone influential and two photos in front of the step and repeat, despite dating a casting director for 7 years & married 2 more, despite her father's connections she never made it.

For the roles she did get (all bit parts) she typically played a “hot girl” showing lots of skin or nude, tight clothes, posing with her mouth open, finger on lip. She was hired because she was willing to objectify herself. So feminist.

Part of the reason she's had trouble getting anywhere in show biz is because she's a User, and never made any permanent friendships. She's also not a team player, and treats people she considers beneath her like dirt.

I read up on her history, and a very disturbing pattern has emerged when it comes to how she treats people. She is very independent, and only makes friends with people who can benefit her somehow. The moment they are no longer useful to her, she dumps them immediately and pretends she doesn't know them. Many people have said she "ghosts" them. People who worked on the set of "Suits" said she was very difficult to work with.

People who knew her before and after her work on "Suits" said that before fame, she was a "nice person." Afterwards, the Fame Monster inside came out, and has been leaving a trail of destruction ever since. I read several stories from people who actually personally encountered her, and many did not come away smiling or feeling satisfied. She appears to have a talent in making people run away in tears. She seems particularly hostile towards other women if they aren't considered "useful friends" to her.

By the way, I finally figured out why nobody knew about her from her work in "Suits." The only people watching it were in Canada! (And maybe a small handful in America). No wonder nobody had ever heard of her before 2018!

Trust me, she can't act to save her life. Only reason she got on "Suits" was because she was mostly playing herself. Plus, she did research and put on airs to hook in Harry. The most she's been able to get recently was a voice-over for an elephant documentary Disney made, and already the critics are panning her. I don't see her starting off on the right foot. Only reason she's been getting anywhere was because she married a prince, and even that is not gonna help her in the long run, with the path I'm seeing the two of them going.
