Career dive bomb?

Yes? No?

I am in the business and there is one big mistake you don't make...

Never quit an ongoing gig!

That goes for actors, and anyone else on the crew. Long lasting jobs are hard to find in this business!

reply

True. Especially since Weatherly ended up leaving and she would have been boosted in the credits and her character given more air time. McGee will never be a lead character of the show.

prove it or shut up

What are you, like 12?? Prove what?

Ya , ask jonny depp. His quitting 21 jump street was career suicide. Just the first to come to mind.

Very few people are so lucky. Thousands of projects are made in Hollywood and only a few get recognized. Even Johnny Depp had his dryspell. I concur with the other poster.

I agree, it was a dumb move. Just look, what has she done lately? Beautiful women are a dime a dozen in Hollywood. Really, other then NCIS, she's not really that well known. Trying to break out and not be typecast is pretty hard to do. For Men, if they don't come back for 10+ years like many have and turned things around and becomes HUGE once again, for Women, much harder to do.

You have a big, regular check coming in all the time, Keep the job! Do a Movie on the off season and try to build something up that way at the same time. So many people you wonder about what happened to them? If they're lucky, they get into a series on AMC, or FX or Netflix and a much smaller paycheck. Seems pretty dumb. 10+ years on a series, you're making really, really good money at that point on a major network.

You can be easily replaced. She replaced the other woman in the series, and she's been replaced, and for many forgotten about. People move on.

Don't get me wrong, she's a very beautiful, sexy woman. I'd do many things with her if I had a chance. But 10 years from now, no longer in her PRIME for TV and movies, she may pop up on a top 10 list of where are they now! Not doing much of anything. Married, Kid, not a lot of money left. Oh well,... Maybe she marries a rich guy never to really be seen again. Wouldn't be the first time by a long shot.

I don't think she'll ever be irrelevant, but I really think she should have stayed. Plenty of people suck it up; just because you are famous doesn't mean you fly away at the slightest slight to whatever your ideals are. You suck it up like every other working individual that doesn't appear on a tabloid.

I just hope she's happy with what she's done...
assuming she is gone completely on her own accord...

She could have a resurgence when it comes to her career but I really don't have a problem with her leaving. When you play a character for a long time that's all people see you as and it's very hard to get other gigs. Plus if you don't like where your character is going or how your being treated as a person/ actress then you walk and hope you find something else.
