Not quite sure of what to make of his accent in CA:CW

It sounded like it was a little off at times but I was still mostly impressed.

American actors generally don't seem to have the capability of putting on foreign accents but his accent as an African was probably the best I've heard from an American.

There's nothing to base it off, it's a fictional country. Not all African dialects sound similar.

Agreed with op. Tbh they should have redone his first scene...At first when he first spoke it sounded wrong, somewhat contrived, there was a little wavering. But as the film went on you could tell that he became more confident and settled and it seemed to fit a lot better . I think I was expecting a thick west or central African accent. But I think they went for an 'educated' southern African type twang. Overall it was good performance... looking forward to seeing more of BP.

He could have used any northern USA or even a British accent. It's not exactly uncommon for wealthy Africans to learn English or get most of their formal education abroad.

Additionally, you meet plenty of Africans who have jumbled up accents. This is part of what I was unsure about. Was it intentional?

Yes, it was very intentional. Chadwick fittingly didn’t want the accent to have any hint of Western influence. Unrealistic, you might say? His character was perhaps taught English in his native land, so T’Challa’s accent is supposed to sound fairly unique in the MCU.

And I love it. Absolutely love it. His introduction in CA: Civil War was impressive and now with his marvelous standalone film on the way... the guy just rules.

His look and accent reminded me of the late actor Zakes Mokae. Only thing left for him to do is grin at the audience.
