The real dirt on what Katie did to her face!
I'm a fan of arrow and I've noticed a number of posts wondering about what happened to Katie's face. As someone who is currently completing their residency in plastic and reconstructive surgery, I thought it would be nice shed some light on the subject seem which many seem to have questions about.
Notice how her face looks different from last season? Katie is really looking a lot like horsey-faced Celine Dion to me now, which is not a good thing.

Everyone is speculating about what Katie did as to why she looks so different. People are wrongly citing everything from weight loss (only a massive weight loss of 150+ lbs. can possibly contribute to such dramatic facial changes), having her jaw line shaved down and contoured (this is a very invasive procedure that requires a long recovery time and is usually only done for people with facial deformities and/or asymmetry or transsexuals looking to feminize a masculine jaw line), to the most popular theory - a chin implant.
While Katie may have indeed had a small chin implant inserted, the other cosmetic procedure she definitely had done that is almost solely responsible for her dramatic facial change is she had buccal fat removal done on her face. Everyone has buccal (pronounced buckle) fat pads located at the outer edge of their cheek near their jaw, about an inch out from the corners of their mouth. These fat pads are sort of like little raviolis. Their removal is a relatively simple in-office procedure where the fat pads are extracted from the inner cheek accessed through one's mouth.
Most reputable plastic surgeons only recommend this for people with natural genetically major chipmunk cheeks and people over the age of 35. The reason is that due to the affects of aging and gravity, the face naturally loses tone and fullness (this is why so many older celebrities *beep* themselves up adding to much facial fillers/cheek implants etc. because fullness, to a certain extent, equals youth). Many women who have their buccal pads removed in their 20's to create the appearance of a more streamlined and defined jaw and cheekbones really regret it by their late 30's as their face starts to look gaunt and slack as their natural aging transpires. Here are before and after pics of this procedure when it's done successfully and on good candidates:

This is why Katie's face shape has changed so much and looks so triangular and pointy at the lower half. In my opinion she was waaaay too young to have this procedure done and will surely regret it (if she hasn't come to already!) in a few years when she starts looking much worse. The tragedy is that this procedure was something she didn't even need! She was a naturally pretty girl who really screwed herself up and unlike lip plumping, buccal pad removal can't be undone! It seems she unfortunately fell to the curse of Hollywood thinking that one is never pretty enough and there is always some tweaking that can be done to improve your looks. And like most people who go that route, she looks slightly weird, severe, and unnatural compared to her former self. Plus the severity makes her look older and not as fresh faced. Why can't people just learn to leave good things alone . This mindset obviously runs in the family though - have you seen what her father, David Cassidy, has done to his face in order to try to look younger?
Not as bad as Bruce Jenner, but it's still totally obvious he had work done. Too often people forget about the graceful part in what it means to be complimented on "aging gracefully".

It's a Zen thing, like how many babies fit in a tire.
