She's going to have to change that horribly racist last name

Remember how we're not allowed to use the word "niggardly" (stingy) any more because it sounds too close to a racial slur? This is the same type of thing.

reply

Lol, what a stupid comment.

(shakes head violently)

reply

Not really. Her name is not racist of course, but in America (where I live), people are highly sensitive to not only the "n-word", but ANYTHING REMOTELY CLOSE to the sound of the word, and that could have a negative effect on her career--if it hasn't already, whether some people think her name is lovely or not.

She need not legally change her name, but can use a different last name for professional purposes, which many, many, people in the entertainment business do anyway, being one smart reason is in keeping one's life a bit more private.

Exactly. People have been FIRED for using the word "niggardly", which is not a racial slur, but sounds like one. Therefore, Ruth Negga is going to have to change her name. Perhaps Ruth Noogie.

reply

Is this a joke??? Its totally different. She seems to be doing alright

reply

Not to be a niggard with my time and effort, but that comment deserves only a cursory response.

Never say "Worst movie ever" to someone who's seen Highlander 2

reply

Seriously, people? That's her actual birth name, why should she change it because it supposedly sounds like a racial slur? Plus it's not even pronounced the same, anyway.

Why is it so important to you to be able to use racial slurs? Are you seriously upset that a word sounds so much like *beep* when you say "we're not allowed to use.."? I get the feeling you use the word anyway and you're pissed that there are repercussions for it.

Also, can you not hear the difference between a short "e" sound and the short "i"?

reply

Do you know how to spell?
