Of course, there is no question of Sam’s “Top 10 secret pre-#Outlander roles” being “secret” as Gold Derby claims in its tweet and and picture gallery. For people visiting this board, except for two productions, Plague over England (a play), and Batman Live*** (2011), all are listed in his filmography. So, at this point we all probably know his oeuvre. New visitors will probably start with his biography, and look at the images - probably in reverse order. So, no secret roles, but more likely unknown to Outlander audiences.

I welcome that Gold Derby draws attention to Sam's other work, because most folks on Twitter know Sam only as Jamie. And even if they would find their way to IMDb, and visit his page for the first time, they would think that he is in Outlander only, because one would see Outlander only. And, as a good second, A Princess for Christmas.

When I first visited his page (before I ever heard of Outlander) there were many more pictures of him in different productions, but somehow they disappeared. Now, most photographs we see are of “Jamie” and “Claire”, Sam and Cait, and just a few where you see only him in a role or in some other capacity.
So, it’s really not surprising that people associate him with Outlander only.

In contrast, if you visit Paul Bettany’s page, you’ll see him in only some (!) pictures with – nota bene – his wife and as his co-star, Jennifer Connelly, but most are of him alone, or images with other co-stars. Similar proportions you’ll find on Jennifer Connelly’s page where I took a quick look. There seem to be slightly more images of herself. And of course with her co-stars (most are not Paul). Both their pages are predominantly about the actors, which imo is the main purpose of these pages.

*** Batman Live is a touring stage show, including theatrical, circus and stage-magic elements, that focuses on the DC Comics superhero Batman. It debuted on July 19, 2011 at the Manchester Evening News Arena, with two and a half years in the making at a reported cost of about £7.5 million.
