Well, AH_fan, what about Jerry Rice's excuse that "everybody was doing it" regarding Stickumgate? Did you approve or disapprove of his reasoning?
With Rice's confession, Joe Montana's reputation and career accomplishments have to be questioned since the Raiders Lester Hayes said that stickum gave a player a huge advantage and without it a person becomes "a mere mortal". Montana's career passing statistics would look much different if his leading receiver, Jerry Rice, had not been an elite player courtesy of stickum.
So before you start casting stones at Tom Brady, be prepared to likewise do so at Joe Montana.
I'm sure, though, that you'll be a hypocrite just like Troy Aikman who won two Super Bowls with illegally filmed videotape and still somehow manages to be critical of the Patriots at every turn.
When you look at what former NFL players say about deflating the balls and the use of stickum, there is a vast difference. All of the players say the deflating of a football, makes it "a little easier" to grip the ball. Conversely, all players say that stickum makes it "much easier" to catch a ball.
BOTTOM LINE: If a player uses stickum, it gives a player a much greater advantage than if a player deflates the football.
