Which blockbuster films has Saoirse missed out on or turned down ?

From a quick search and look I see that some people said that Saoirse was offered the part of Tauriel the Elf in the last two Hobbit films but turned it down in favour of doing more films in Hollywood and the UK rather than being restricted to just the two films in New Zealand.

If those reports are true then that was a big mistake as each of those Hobbit films took close to a billion dollars at the Box Office and would have given her great exposure as well as a nice couple of pay days.

Edit: Unless of course they offered her peanuts to do them in which case it would be understandable if she turned them down on that basis.

We can say there is no doubt she was offered the role you referenced, but I believe there were too many opportunities Saoirse would've had to forgo if she accepted the part. I watched all the films, and I feel her talents go well beyond the material offered to her at the time.

If it's true Joss Whedon felt she was the "template" so to speak for Scarlet Witch and indeed wanted her specifically, then I'd say this particular role might have been a blast to watch her in.

Well hindsight is a wonderful thing and Saoirse could only make her choice at that time. But I don't think there was any doubt that 'The Hobbit' films were going to be a huge success at the Box Office. Granted they weren't films of any great merit in themselves but they were spectacular and entertaining movies made for the mass market. I own them all and enjoy them for what they are, in fact as sheer entertainment I like them better than the 'Lord of the Rings' films.

And as it turned out were the films she made instead of doing 'The Hobbit' from 2012 to 2014 really worth forgoing the kind of exposure she would have received? After all none of the films [Byzantium, The Host, How I Live Now, Justin and the Knights of Valour, The Grand Budapest Hotel and Lost River] did anything much to heighten her profile or further her career or even fill her bank account.

Byzantium is the best vampire movie made so far, and that was hard to do, in a very crowded category; so, yeah, that furthered her esteem much more than being in a muddled, mediocre and already-forgotten cash-grab-cum-bloatfest.

I think Grand Budapest Hotel certainly boosted her profile somewhat (it was probably her biggest movie since Atonement) and is one of my favorite roles of hers.

The Hobbit films were complete mediocrities. I'm not shedding any tears over her or any other actor I like not being in them.

^I don't necessarily disagree with anything you've written above purple lemon, but personally, I'm happy to watch and observe her acting in those films instead of what she would've been required to do in Jackson's TH series. Other than the love that character developed for.....I can't recall the name....there wasn't much interesting about her. Sure, she was definitely brave and the like, but there wasn't a lot on the page to work with.

True enough, it was a lightweight role no doubt about it. And I enjoyed Saoirse's roles in 'Grand Budapest Hotel' and also 'Lost River' (where she got to sing!) but they were very small parts.

Anyway I like to play a bit of a Devil's Advocate on this board because it can all get a bit too unrelievedly adoring don't you think...?

Not to mention mildly unhinged! Someone reported and had deleted a totally inoffensive although mildly critical comment I made in this thread and now I have the red warning before I post. Talk about being ridiculously precious...

You liked Lost...Movie? 

As I've said more than once here, the board would be a boring place if everyone agreed all the time. It was fun when we had trolls show up and post silly stuff because we were able to go at them and mix it up a bit.

I'm surprised as I haven't read anything even mildly offensive or provocative on any of the threads. In the past, we've had some pretty nasty stuff from aforementioned trolls when some of us attacked them due to the things said about her.

In any event, I'm positive we'll have a lot going on news-wise because of her many projects this year.

She auditioned for/was offered Scarlet Witch in Avengers. She confirmed that she auditioned for Star Wars, presumably for Rey. IMDB says she was considered for Cinderella in the 2015 live action movie. She turned down the Kitty part that went to Alicia Vikander in Joe Wright's Anna Karenina movie. IMDB also says she was considered for Lois Lane in Man of Steel, a role in Fantastic Beasts, the upcoming Lara Croft movie, Emma Watson's part in Noah, Sue Storm in the new Fantastic Four that bombed, Jean Grey in the most recent X-Men, and June Mooone in Suicide Squad.

She was first choice for Scarlet Witch, turned it down. The head of Paramount confirmed to media that Ronan was to star in 'Noah', that part was eventually turned down. Ronan was cast in Disney's 'Order of The Seven', I think that was abandoned too so she could do 'Lost River'. There are lots of other ones too.

Wow! she could have been Scarlet Witch? i wonder why she turned that down, maybe she doesn't like doing blockbusters or super hero stuff.
