Pine and Hemsworth killed the Kelvin reboot

They wanted too much money, considering declining box office. More info at TrekMovie and https://moviechat.org/tt2660888/Star-Trek-Beyond

Heroes or villains? The movies have been hit and miss from the start, but I prefer Discovery to Kelvin.

The studio signed the actors to a lucrative deal before the release of ST3 which ultimately flopped. The original financiers backed out of their financing agreement for ST4 which meant that the studios needed to find new ones. They did but for much less financing which meant that Pine and Hemsworth needed to work for less money than their signed contracts had entitled them. They refused.

Heroes or villains? Neither. But, I believe that the fans are victims, though. Btw, neither STD nor the movies are contractually allowed to be canon since the rights are held by two different entities, Paramount and CBS, which is why we're getting alternate timelines and made-up nonsense for the show.

Thank goodness for the Orville, the only real Star Trek show.

Nah. If that script was a home run they would have paid them what they wanted. Clearly the studio had no faith in the project.
