I love Jeff Bridges but I think Chris should have got the best supporting actor nomination...

Chris is the lead actor in 'Hell or High Water', so if he were to be nominated then he would've been nominated for Best Actor instead. Both Jeff Bridges and Ben Foster are the supporting actors in this film.
But I do agree with you, Chris' acting in this film is just superb, hands down his best acting performance yet in his career and he totally deserves to be nominated for Best Actor, so it's very disappointing that he has been snubbed for most of the awards 

There's this conversation going around about who is lead and who is supporting. Most people have chris as the lead since it's his characters story arc that makes the movie. While others have both jeff and chris as co leads anyways, the best actor race is pretty tight and full and toby just doesn't standout enough. As fans we want our favorites to get nominated but the field is always big with great performances and only a small amount of those performances get a chance to win. I look at it not that he got snubbed because we knew he wasn't getting nominated since he wasn't nominated for a golden globe and he only got one nomination for a critic choice award. but he is in an oscar nominated film and that is fantastic that means he is apart of that.

There is other opportunities but the role has to be right.

I suppose if you consider all the nominees for Best Actor, Chris does have a lot of tough competition because there are many very talented actors out there, some are better than Chris, and only the very few get picked for nominations for awards like these.
As much as I love Chris and have followed his career for many years and I've always thought he's a good actor, but I think he has only just began to show his TRUE acting potential in 'Hell or High Water'. Even though most people would consider his role in Star Trek as his "breakthrough" role because he originally gained fame because of ST, but I think that as an actor and based on the quality of his acting, his performance in HoHW is his REAL breakthrough role, because he finally showed his TRUE acting potential in that film, and his brilliant performance in that film earned him widespread praise from both critics and many moviegoers alike, I don't think he has received this kind of overwhelmingly warm reception from audiences for any of his other movie roles before, not even for his performance as Kirk in ST.

This is Chris best acting and he got a lot of notice for this film.love that he can do drama, comedy, action adventure, hopefully we see him at the Oscars supporting the hell or high water nominees.

It's not chris' performance, it's the character toby is just too quiet too normal to standout. Even the director said he gave chris credit for taking on toby because he isn't outlandish of a character he is the everyday man, he didn't get the nest lines.

Any actor can win an oscar given the right character, it also depends on the Academy what they're looking for in that year.

I've seen all but a few of his films and I've seen his acting chops before hell or high water. It's just people are just only starting to take stock and notice him.

that's my point, I've always felt that Chris is a good actor ever since I saw him in the first Star Trek movie, but it wasn't until his performance in HoHW in particular that people got to see his real acting potential, that's why so many people have finally started to take notice of Chris. Even many people who used to dismiss him as just a pretty face in the past have now started to see him as having real acting potential. Which is why I believe his role in HoHW is his real 'breakthrough' role, and not so much Jim Kirk in ST.

I didn't mean star trek, i was more thinking along the lines of
Confession
Bottle shock
People like us
Stretch
Smoking aces
Horrible bosses 2

All roles requiring more acting chops, I've noticed that since he did stretch people started to take notice. Unfortunately it's a film not seen by alot of people, now hell has boosted him further and has shown people he can do the dramatic as well as the insane.

Star trek was the foot in the door for potential stardom, hell or high water is his longevity. Both are vital in the industry otherwise an actor can fade away with no choice in the matter.
