The Big Heat - Domestic Violence???

This guy keeps getting worse and worse as time goes by. Lately he's started a habit of warning viewers of scenes they may find offensive or politically incorrect. Seriously? This is what we need? He sounds like a moron. Apparently we're too sensitive for movies society watched 60 years ago. Idiot.

His latest act of stupidity was the fact he felt he had to warn the audience of a brutal and awful, yet memorable example of domestic violence and coffee in The Big Heat. Maybe this dumb ass should learn what domestic violence is, because this was not at all domestic violence.

Throwing coffee in the face of a girl you're seeing, during a meeting with a bunch of criminals, because those criminals told you she spoke with the cops, does not constitute domestic violence. Apparently simply because it happened in their house, it makes it domestic violence, according to his idiotic logic. And we need to be warned. He is a dumb shit on a level all his own.

I think he's told by TCM to do it. There's been a difference since Robert Osborne died.

reply

You're right. There has been a huge difference. Unfortunately not for the better. The professionalism and class are both gone.

I've never really liked Ben Mankiewicz in general. There's this "I know a lot about movies and you don't" way that he speaks.

reply

He feels he's Hollywood royalty. Since previous Mankiewicz's found success generations ago, he feels that success somehow elevates him. So wrong, yet again. Even his equally annoying brother is more successful than Ben.

And I hate how he keeps bringing up his grandfather being one of the writers for Citizen Kane.

It's clear Mankiewicz needs to take his job more seriously. Not just showing up and reading off the intros and outros smoothly, but being familiar enough with each film he talks about to avoid dumb mistakes, and taking the movies as seriously as the TCM audience does. I wouldn't mind if Eddie Muller took over as the main host.
