He's actually a really good actor

I know a lot of people are quick to just associate him with Twilight. But seriously this guy has some real acting abilities. Since watching Good Time and The Devil All the Time, I view him differently. Still haven't watched The Lighthouse though.

I think people associated Twilight with poor acting, and not poor characters. Honestly, I thought that both he and Stewart nailed their characters in Twilight. Even Taylor Lautner did an okay job and I don't think he is a good actor. Those were just really badly written characters in the books, and they didn't really improve on the screen.

reply

I don't think his performance in twilight was exceptional, but I think his acting skills have been improving over the years. I can even see him as a great character actor in his old years.

He was not doing as well as Kristen Stewart in the decade after twilight, but I think he will do better than her in the future.

reply

I dont feel he was great in Twilight. I also don't think that there was much to work with within the character of Edward.

reply

I associate him with bad acting.

reply

Why?

reply

I've never seen him as a good actor. I have no interest in him playing Batman. I honestly thought it was a joke when he was announced. And even more so after seeing the awful trailer. He should be playing Joker.

reply

Have you seen the film Good Time?

reply

No. I have too many other films I want to see. I'm not a fan and I never will be.

Are you a Willem Dafoe fan? When I saw the DVD of The Lighthouse at one of my local libraries, the image on front captivated me and seeing Willem Dafoe made me want to watch it. I realized Robert Pattinson was the other guy standing with him...but Dafoe is great in everything I have seen him in and the visage compelled me to watch it. It was an interesting and bizarre film with symbolism and psychological events playing out. But it was a decent movie! Its stuck with me since I have watched it.Also looking into the trivia of the film, they filmed on location in Nova Scotia with real weather conditions being a part of it all. It changed my mind about Pattinson after you realize he wasnt on a stage when he worked outside in the film.

"The cast and crew filmed under extreme weather conditions: freezing temperatures, cold Atlantic water, intense winds, snow, rain and no protective flora on the Forchu terrain kept them exposed to the elements throughout the shoot. Three Nor'easters blew across Cape Forchu during various stages of the production. Much of the film was shot in real weather elements, so rain and wind machines weren't needed most of the time, with director Robert Eggers stating that "the most crazy and dramatic stuff was shot for real." The crew had to film the scene where Pattinson's character goes into the sea at night when the weather settled down, because they were afraid they might lose him to a riptide."

I always liked Dafoe, and always liked Lighthouses, I was glad I watched the movie. If you dont care for those two things I reckon you wont watch it. But if you do, I would like to know what you think of the movie

I like Dafoe. Not Pattinson. He is not a good actor. Not that it matters to play Batman. The CGI/stuntmen will do most of the work. And the trailer does help. It looks even worse than I expected.

reply

Trailer for Lighthouse or Batman?

I was inspired to see if just from the DVD artwork and Dafoe, never seen the trailer. But I'll see what lighthouse trailer is like now.

reply

I agree he is a good actor.

reply

Seen him in some recent movies that were very good and he was very good in them.

As for the FIRST Twilight, I liked it. LOL. Seriously. Pretty good.

reply

Yes, I think that movie was dismissed mainly because of being a popular teen movie, the snobs won't accept it can be good.

At least the first one is a good movie, I enjoyed it, even I was in 30s.

reply

I think his best role was Good Time(2017), He is truly evil scumbag in that movie.

reply

Evil? Didn't seem evil to me at all.

He’s good in The Lost City of Z, Good Time and The Lighthouse.

Adequate in Maos to the Stars.

He’s awful in The King. Completely miscast, and trying desperately to compensate by overacting as if he’s in a pantomime. And I thought he was poor in Tenet.

Other than his role in Harry Potter I’m not sure I’ve seen him in anything else. Clearly a talented actor, but needs to have his worst tendencies reigned-in.

I liked his "super french arrogant pyschopath" xD it was nice to see an over the top character in some films. Its shot as a very serious movie, so his character was funny to see and hear...and also disturbing. When I think of old time royalty, I imagine them as entitled arrogant pyschopaths making light about others pain, so he fit right in!

If you look at some trivia for the Lighthouse, Pattinson seems to be driven as an actor. Kinda reminded me of Christian Bale in extremity, or even James Gandolfini (he pysched himself up to grow angry and would place pebbles in his shoe to keep that frustration pent up)

"Robert Pattinson had an unusual approach to psych himself up before emotionally extreme scenes. Director Robert Eggers states, "Sometimes he'd beat himself in the face so bad. Or when it was raining through the cottage roof, Rob was drinking the rainwater in-between takes. He also spun around in circles a lot, that was helpful for him. Or he'd stick his fingers down his throat to make himself gag, stuff like that." Particular the scene where both characters are drunk and Dafoe lies on Pattinson's chest, he "was sticking his fingers down his throat (before the take). Willem gave me a look as if to say, 'If Rob f*****g pukes on me...'"
