We don't know what her background is - Her parents could be British or she might have gone to a British school. I personally think it's just an educated/upper class Australian accent, or else she's had elocution lessons. In the interview that's on youtube (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wb-mx2geunc&feature=relatedruiseshipjob.com/), her accent seems to become more 'Australian' when she's laughing or generally relaxed. Otherwise she is more self-conscious, not in the sense of awkward or shy, but she's aware of what she says and how she speaks. Her accent doesn't sound especially British to me, I think it's just not a broad Australian accent.

What the heck is her real accent. If shes putting it on, why??
Not very endearing.

Really weird i agree, i doubt it's because she went to the u.k.

My first guess, is that she must come from a rich family and went to a expensive private school in the inner city suburbs of melbourne. According to wiki, i'm right, a private girls school in one of the richest areas of melbourne.

Apart from that i also think her accent is a little influenced by her primary school teacher mom, who is from the u.k

It's her natural accent heard it in too many interviews where she is completely relaxed.

I watched Please Like Me the other night and noticed this weird accent too. I came here to see if she'd been acting in English shows for a while but nope. I was still watching Neighbours when she was in it and she certainly didn't have speak like that back then. Quite odd.

It's a pretentious pretend accent. I couldn't stop laughing when I saw her on Talkin'. She was in the UK for a bit but not nearly long enough to pick THAT awful thing up.
