I'm done with her

Now that the boards will be closing forever, might as well get something off my chest...

I am officially done with being a fan of AnnaSophia Robb. I have been following her for many, many years and even had contacts with people close to her. I supported her when she was doing indie movies that no one saw. I drove 60 miles to the nearest theater playing Sleepwalking and there were only four or five people in there watching. I defended her when she expressed her religious views which I agreed with, and then defended her again with her liberal social views which I did not agree with but supported her right to express them anyway.

I applauded when she tackled the challenging role in Soul Surfer and dared to be in the religiously leaning film. I applauded again when she had the courage to travel to India at age 14 and visit some of the poorest sections that tourists never see and personally witnessed some of the most awful plights of poverty on the planet. When she was mocked by classmates in High School for quoting Scripture and they called her "Bible Girl" (by far most fans never knew of this but I did) I quietly supported her once more.

I was then disappointed when she took the role of Carrie Bradshaw in the Carrie Diaries, a character whom as a sexual libertine I felt was the antithesis of Christian values. I cringed when she posed with porn star (Annie Sprinkle), and I cringed some more with her changes in attitude as the 2016 elections drew close. I always knew she was a liberal, but she always showed grace and dignity and respect toward the opposing side. I feel that she has now abandoned that respect, and shed the grace and dignity that made her stand out. She now stands with the loudest and most vulgar elements of political protest, has grown acidic with them and no longer resembles the humble Colorado girl she once was.

The last straw came as she chose to defend Lena Dunham and her soft-core pornographic (lets face the truth, that's what it really is) show, and has the audacity to say that Dunham has progressed women's issues with this mockery that degrades and sullies both genders. I do not know how any person like her who not only was raised Christian, attended a Christian private school, still claimed to be Christian as an adult and even got baptized as an adult can have this morbid fascination with the most pornographic end of human sexuality, as well as supports the most violent segments of political opposition.

In short, she went from being a cautious moderate to being a radical. And I can no longer call myself a fan.

Foremost -- which I need to suggest because it feels as if everyone with religious enthusiasm repeats the word like a hateful parrot -- please familiarize yourself with the definition of liberal.

http://www.dictionary.com/browse/liberal?s=t
1. favorable to progress or reform ...

...

3. of, pertaining to, based on, or advocating liberalism, especially the freedom of the individual and governmental guarantees of individual rights and liberties.

4. favorable to or in accord with concepts of maximum individual freedom possible, especially as guaranteed by law and secured by governmental protection of civil liberties.

5. favoring or permitting freedom of action, especially with respect to matters of personal belief or expression

6. of or relating to representational forms of government rather than aristocracies and monarchies.

7. free from prejudice or bigotry; tolerant

With that said, I respect (as in tolerate) your right to express being opposed to these values/characteristics -- just as I didn't feel a need to belittle her for posting scripture, etc on social media even though I was disappointed -- however, I will point out that you describing the following as "vulgar" is generally untrue:
She now stands with the loudest and most vulgar elements of political protest

Anywho...

I'm overall proud of AnnaSophia's actions. She has indeed made mistakes and behaved in ways that I disagree, but single errors and contrasts in and of themselves are not problematic. Actually, differences can be beneficial to the whole. Ultimately, any judgement should be made on how we react/adapt in the presence of those poor choices -- which, again, I conclude that AnnaSophia has primarily stood on the side of progress.

Good to see your posts again, Odie33. We've lived and breathed her movies for years, and I agree with you. Though she's stumbled, I still follow her and appreciate what she's done. Every movie she's made, she's been the spark that made the movie. We watched her grow up in film, and we saw her become an adorable and amazingly talented child actress to a woman who has come into her own, and figured out her own personality without the influence of her parents. I applaud her for finding herself, because not many child actors and child actresses can do that very well when they become adults.

So essentially you supported her when her political, religious and social values aligned with yours, and now that they no longer do you don't support her anymore. Shocker. Personally, I can relate to not being a fan of hers anymore (this is the first time I've visited this board in almost a year), but not for the reasons you've provided here. I think a more valid justification for not being a fan of hers is the fact that she doesn't freaking do anything anymore.

She was at the women's march with a poster that talked about sexism and prejudice. She had pictures and quotes of Martin Luther King so I posted on her Instagram.
"Anna You do know Reverend MLK would have been an issue at Women's March & told to stay off the stage and go to the back of the march (They did that to a group of feminist) Planned Parenthood objected to pro-life groups speaking or being a partner. PPH are more concerned with funding cuts than the solidarity. His niece had a post that MLK talked about the civil rights for the unborn. His family wrote a letter I can get it to you if you want. Intersectional feminism is oppression but a new NY Movement of Feminism were removed as a partner when PPH read in the Atlantic they were pro-life. They claimed was about coming together but Michael Moore is on the stage telling people to tweet 100 days straight to get Trump impeached. Anna I hear about your Christian values. But most religious groups and tax payers have an issue with medicare paying for an abortion because teens like binge drinking doing drugs and having sex with strangers. Deciding if child can live is pretty serious gray area. Taking the life of a baby because a child is an inconvenience to a woman's career isn't christian. I did not think you would not be the part of that Hollywood."

As soon as I saw the title of this thread I knew it would be some right-wing crank expressing disappointment at the fact that Miss Robb has done away with the brainwashing of her past. 

As for me, I like her more and more the more to the left she moves. 

Wow. Politics and art. Oil and water. Profane and sacred.

Go look up “the original fallacy” under “formal criticism.”

If you can.
