Appearance in Vikings

In her role as Aslaugh in Vikings, Sutherland facially and in the way her hair is arranged, resembles Botticelli's Venus. She is lovely.

"..sure you won't change your mind? Why, is there something wrong with the one I have?"

reply

Brilliant point. Boticelli would love to have her as his muse. She is beyond gorgeous and incredibly charming to boot.

she looks out of place. Too skinny compared to the others and too tall. Makes her look like a dork, and she wouldn't have been considered attractive in those days. She looks way too skinny for medieval taste and unable to bear children

Yep, because casting a hefty porker in the role would really hold the attention of the mostly male audience for this show.

"You may think that...I couldn't possibly comment."

tastes changes through time. In the fifties marilyn monroe was considered a sex symbol. These days she would be called too fat for movies. You would call her a hefty porker
In my book marilyn monroe is a normal woman with "normal" measurements.

personally I think she is horribly miscast in this role. A real Botticelli's Venus would have work. Her angular features and modern model looks really don't. She has almost ruined the series for me. She takes me out of drama every time she is on screen when I end up on NY fashion week or the pages of Vogue instead.

The fact that some countries had a pattern of beauty in late middle ages do not give us the Vikings' one in 8 century...
Also, if we should keep that faithful to history we should remember that Vikings are 5'5", not 6'2" as the series show them...

Porky women were not attractive to Vikings. Based on statues and figures fit women were regarded as attractive.

She actually fits very well because Viking were taller that the rest of Europeans. The Nordic countries still are significantly taller with the exception of a few countries that heavily interbred with Nordic peoples.
