Could Gordon pull off blackface?

Gordo loves to dress up in disguises on his shows. Going black face seems inevitable after going full Mrs Doubtfire. Is he iconic enough to pull it off without hooplah in today's social climate? Robert Downey Jr. pulled it off. I think Gordon could too. Or are people just too bent today?

No!

The answer to any question that asks 'could [insert name] pull off blackface?' is always an emphatic 'NO!

The only reason Robert Downey Jr. pulled it off in Tropic Thunder is that he was making fun of a deluded actor who somehow believed it was still acceptable to go blackface.

It was a relatively sophisticated, almost meta joke, that was deriding the whole practice of blackface, and the joke was always at RDJ's character's expense, and not on black people. And even then, RDJ and co barely got away with it. There was a lot of controversy surrounding the character leading up to the film's release.

With his expert knife skills, I'm sure he could cut around the outside of the face to where he could afterwards pull off the black guy's face. But he could probably do it to any ethnicity just as well.

Gross. Good grief.

If he did, and either shaved his head or wore a wig, he would be very convincing. I'd imagine people who saw him might actually believe he is a black man.

reply

I doubt he’d ever have a need or want to do that.
