The way she pronounces the letter R

Has anyone else noticed the way she pronounces the letter R? The best way I can describe it is she sort of "rolls" her Rs - they sound like she is pronouncing them from the very back of her throat.

This video (from her appearance on The Tonight Show) is a good example of what I'm talking about, especially the way she pronounces "charm" and "work" in the first few seconds:

I love "The Blacklist" but I can't stop noticing this weird pronunciation! I've heard other actresses (can't think of any off the top of my head) do this same thing. I tried Googling what exactly this was but no luck -- is it a regional accent?

I can't help but notice it. It's bizarre.

I call it a "fake soft R." Very popular in the far western U.S., especially among broadcasters -- but that was 20 years ago. It was a COMPLETE affectation that quickly faded away, but maybe she visited Portland once as a teenager and decided it was cool.

When I hear Boone do it, I literally grit my teeth because it is so irritating. Can't believe no director / producer / casting director has ever told her to cut it out!

I finally find someone who noticed this too! I could never explain it properly to make anyone understand me (especially online) and it's something I noticed in Maggie Lawson as Juliet on Psych. I think Megan's is a bit more noticeable. Silly enough, I listened to myself interviewing someone and I tend to do the same thing though I can't pinpoint why lol.

Sometimes I wonder if it's an attempt to enunciate every letter as clearly as possible. I really don't know.

I noticed this, and it reminded me of a younger Mary McDonnell from Major Crimes. I came here to see if they were related or from the same hometown, but I can't find any connection.

You guys are that person who points out an annoying cricket that no one else noticed and then it becomes all you can hear and think about once you notice it. DANG YOU!

Isn't that just lovely? She's a mature lady and each of us rolls a different tongue, so what?

My drama prof had a problem with the way all the students pronounced their "R." He blamed it on where we lived (southern Ontario). He said it was too harsh and guttural and tried to get us to soften it up, which meant he wanted us to sound more English. To be honest, I've never really notice anything strange about Meagan's pronunciation. Maybe it is a regional thing.

Um, maybe she has a speech impairment ?
