Is this one of the best bands in history?

Yes, yes it is.

Indeed it is!

Eddie all the way!

What brought them to mind for me today was on my way to work this morning, I had my digital music library on shuffle and up pops Rime of the Ancient Mariner. Who else could come up with such an epically awesome masterpiece. And one damn song lasted almost half of my ride to work. Great way to start the day!

Phantom of the Opera is mine.

But yes - what a band!

I don't know, but what I do know is that drummer Nicko McBrain is one of the nicest guys you'll ever meet.

I work at a golf shop in South Florida and Nicko is a regular customer when he's in town. He recently donated an autographed Iron Maiden golf bag to a charity tournament benefiting the families of those who lost loved ones at the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School shooting in Parkland. The bag fetched $700 at the auction.

And just to add meat to the bone, I do believe that I will have dinner at his restaurant, Rock n Roll Ribs, tonight or tomorrow.
It's a fun place to go to, but I swear, you can't get near the place when Nicko's in town, as it's absolutely jam packed.

Up the Irons

I'm just getting into them again, rediscovering all the old albums and new ones, I lost interest in the 90's when Bruce left but am loving this song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UwLtyvGdNbc

That was one of the better songs with Bayley on vocals but I would have loved a Dickinson studio version of that song. I like how the opening riff sounds like a distorted version of the one from Infinite Dreams.

reply

Yeah, Bruce Dickinson on vocals to that song would of been great, I love both studio versions of Prowler too, Paul Di'Anno was good but Bruce Dickinson is so much better than Di'Anno and Bayley.

It was about a year ago I posted here, at the time I was just getting it to the Irons again, now I listen to them all the time whilst working out, their long songs like Empire of the Clouds, Rime Of The Ancient Mariner and Alexander The Great are great to run to!

Going to see them tonight!

reply

Cool! Have fun!

Objectively... Yes, probably. I personally am not a huge fan... But some of their tracks are solid.

But if we talk about rock/metal bands... It's definitely there with Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, etc.

reply

That’s a good list. I’d probably add Ozzy era Black Sabbath to it as well.

reply

Nope. The best band is Fat Larry's Band. This is a well known fact.

reply

Well that goes without saying. That’s why I said ‘one of the best bands’. FLB is a given as the best.

Well don’t that beat all! Here I am posting about Maiden and my post number is just about to hit The Number, thus my need to make this post. So here you go:

Woe to you, oh Earth and sea, for the Devil sends the Beast with wrath because he knows the time is short. Let him who hath understanding reckon the number of the Beast.
For it is a human number, its number is six hundred and sixty six.

YEEEEEEEEEEEEEAH!
