SPL 2 is a solid actioner, Skin Trade is pretty good

I've been bashing Tony Jaa's laziness for a while now, but he seems to be back on track.

SPL 2: A Time for Consequences (2015) (Chinese Action/Drama) – Tony Jaa v. Wu Jing is every contemporary martial arts lover’s dream come true (or at least one of them) . . . and it friggin’ delivers! A drug-addict (Jing) and prison security guard (Jaa) try to save themselves and/or loved ones while trapped within a black market organ theft organization. This film spends quite a bit of time developing the story and characters, and is mostly successful at doing so despite a few improbable coincidences. The performances are good all-around, and both leads give what is likely the best performances of their careers. But what about the action? Well, it’s very impressive and plentiful enough to satisfy. The choreography is fast and precise, with only marginal use of wires. Watching Jing and Jaa fight within the same camera frame is both orgasmic and exciting.

Skin Trade (2014) (Thai/American Action) – The boss of a human trafficking network (Ron Perlman) uses his contacts to force conflict between a New York City cop (Dolph Lundgren) and a Thai detective (Tony Jaa). This is a good, no-nonsense actioner that has plenty of action to keep one entertained. None of the shootouts or fights ascend to “instant classic” status, but it gives you more than enough to satisfy. Jaa can still move very well.

Tony Jaa is back, but I thought Skin Trade was pretty horrible. I didn't watch the movie for the story, but the fight/action scenes (the only reason I watched the movie) were poorly edited. You get Michael Jai White and Tony Jaa in the same movie and THAT is what we get?

Hmm...I didn't know about Kill Zone 2. I'll have to check that one out.

Skin Trade was all right.
