She's posed semi-nude and is in LUI Magazine this month. Like Rihanna before her.
She's also topless on the cover; just like Rihanna.
The pics were taken by Terry "D-Bag" Richardson. Like Miley Cyrus before her.

She didn't strike me at the kind of artist that would "go there"; and so I stand corrected.

I'm sure she will justify the photoshoot by saying how much she "just prefers to be nude", clothing is overrated", etc...

But is this really just about trying to keep up? Mind you, she is beautiful and her breasts are glorious; but is that the best recommendation her publicist could give her in order to stay current?

The public objectify these women in the first place and turn them into sex symbols. So if that's the case then they can take ownership of it and how they wish to present themselves and their sexuality. It empowerment. They are in the driving seat. If it is cynical and calculated then all power to them, this is an entertainment business after all.
On he other hand if it's an expression of the artistic merits of the human body and how it should be celebrated as a thing of beauty then sand thing applies, all power to you. It's yours applied nd yours along to do what you want with.
