I’m tired of people praising him for his studio and accomplishments. This man is very egotistical and self important. People act like a win for Tyler Perry’s is a win for black people when it’s really just a win for Tyler Perry. If he really cared about black people in media he’d invest money into actually trying to produce real movies, with real plots, and real character arch’s.

Spike lee never had big Hollywood behind him and 80% of his movies have been incredibly well crafted films. You can’t even count of two hands the amount of good movies he’s made. Then you have people like ava duvernay, Steve McQueen, Barry Jenkins, Ryan Coogler, and more all producing great movies and trying their hardest to get funding to bring more stories to life, yet Tyler perry sits here on a mountain of money bragging about putting out fast food movies.

This is what he had to say about hiring black writers...

“At the time, I had a bunch of writers who were nonunion, and I was unhappy with every single script they wrote. They were not speaking to the voice. They just didn’t get it. There was a Black woman lawyer I was negotiating with to get WGA [Writers Guild of America] writers on my show. I told her, ‘I can’t afford to pay those rates that every other studio pays. I need to structure differently.’ It looked like the deal was going to go through so I fired the four writers and prepared to hire new writers through the WGA.”

He continued, “Now we’re a WGA show and I’m paying WGA rates. Scripts they’re turning in? Ratings are going down. So now I have to go in and give notes on how to rewrite them. And if I still don’t like it, I have to pay them again for another rewrite. At one point, I thought they were submitting scripts that would need rewrites in order to get paid multiple times. And these are Black people.”
