She didn't disappear, but she's sure taken a lower profile

No major movie runs these past two years after her big one with "La la land". I always thought she'd be the type of actress to headline in at least 3 movies every year (Oscar bait film, action adventure, Dramedy).

reply

Do they make Oscar bait movies for actresses anymore? I thought those were only done when Harvey wanted to boink a new starlet.

reply

Yeah, now they're rich and famous for spreading their eager, grasping legs, they keep schtum.

reply

These two were both pretty major movies. We caught both of them:
- The Favourite (Abigail)
- Battle of the Sexes (Billie Jean King)

reply

Both from 2018 and 2017, respectively, and I don't think The Favourite was ever released in the States nationwide.

reply

Seemed like it. We saw it in the theater. It won at least one Oscar.

reply

the favourite was a pretty big success in the states - made a touch over $34 million, & received a best pic nomination at the oscars. & a best supporting actress nom for stone.

not la la land level success, but for a yorgos lanthimos weirdo period drama, it did quite nicely.

reply

appreciate the corroboration

reply

Just last year she was in Zombieland 2 and in 2018 she did that show Maniac on Netflix.

reply

Which were both below her in my opinion. Seemed to be starring in bigger films before the Oscar.

reply

Define bigger? Other than the Amazing Spider-Man she's never been a big franchise movie actress, mostly small movies and light fare. She filmed the Cruella movie which has yet to come out, and has likely worked on theater projects in between movies which is something she's done from time to time. She's done two big award movies since LaLa Land as well as a miniseries. I don't see a problem with slowing down and smelling the roses as they were.

reply

All of which flew under the radar.
