Golden Globes...

How on earth did she not win best actress...my only guess is that the people that didn't vote for her haven't seen Penny Dreadful - she deserved the the award and the show deserved more recognition - the fact that Lady Gaga and Syvester won (yes I know they are not in the same categories) it makes it into a popularity contest of the show or hype around the actor-- and not of their acting skills

reply

It was a tought category but for me she is the best. Penny Dreadful is not usual material for the awards season but she is so great that shines even in a horror ghotic drama.

I know that GG are little more than popularity contest but come on.

Jennifer Lawrence won another Golden Globe, this time for a mediocre movie ? And the worst thing AMPAS will nominate her for this. On the other hand someone like Charlotte Rampling gave performance of her life and she doesn't even have a chance for nomination.

I don't get all this love for The Revenant either. It's a very good movie but not a great one and certainly not a masterpiece. I usually like movies like this (There Will Be Blood and The Master are one of my favorites) but I was dissapointed with this. It's really all style without substance. The fact that The Revenant is the movie with lowest score on RT and MC of all possible BP contenders is not without reason. Most overhyped and overrated movie of the season. Innaritu is one of the best but Birdman was better movie.

I kinda hoped Fassbender would win , if nothing else to make Best Actor race more interesting. But alas. If DiCaprio is destined to win for his body of work I'm fine with that but personally, I wouldn't put his performance in his top 5.

Winslet's win may be of benefit for the Mara. Vikander lost tonight and she will not be present at SAG with Ex Machina. SAG Best Supporting races will be the most interesting, especially for females: Rooney vs Alicia vs Kate vs Jennifer !

Bah.

I am so clever that sometimes I don't understand a single word of what I am saying.

It's a shame, for sure :( I really feel she has SO much talent, that just never really seems to be fully recognized. As others say though, award shows like this really are just popularity contests, deep down, and Green often intentionally aims at doing stuff in more niche/obscure things. I like to think these things just go to show that she has a lot of hidden talent that not everyone seems to see; or (and I mean this as a huge compliment) that she was almost born into the wrong era of Hollywood/cinema, with talents that almost harken back more to eras like the 40s-60s (classic femme fatales, old-school divas, etc.

Well, from what I read, she tends to turn down roles that would make her famous. She really hurts her own exposure.

Aye, I think I read something like that, too. While she does pick such amazing roles, you're right that she also doesn't always make decisions that genuinely help her exposure. Granted I'm guessing she also doesn't really care that much.

reply

She is shy and she don't care about all the p.r. game in Hollywood. I think she is truly an actress that love acting and scripts and has zero interest to be an hit girl.

reply

i think it's best for her to be in good projects either than being in popular Hollywood projects.

she is special

reply

Agreed. Eva tends to be the best thing in the big Hollywood projects she does (300: Rise of An Empire, Sin City 2), but the overall quality of those projects tend to be lacking. With the smaller indie films, Eva is still the best thing in them, but the quality of those projects is pretty decent (Cracks, Perfect Sense). Plus, it seems as though she enjoys the latter more than the former.

No more sporks or spnives or knifoons! It's like a Dr. Seuss kitchen down there!
