They did a report about Bel Ami on Russian TV with some new footage:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3XG-aDdzqpo

Rough translation:
Robert Pattinson had left the Twilight Zone for a little while, and starred as a lead-actor in the movie Bel Ami. His co-stars are Uma Thurman and Christina Ricci. What a company! - vampire, serial killer and daughter from the Adams family. Scary, scary melodrama.

Damned womanizer Pattinson, clothed in the 19 century suit and a hat, looks amazingly gorgeous. This time he's playing the part of a seducer Georges Duroy, a sickly-sweet adventurer, who's trying with all his might to get into Paris' high society.

Rob: "Georges doesn't differ from other people, he doesn't have a talent, he's not noteworthy, but he knows exactly what he wants."

Maybe with this new role Rob will be able to get rid of association of being a Twilight vampire Cullen. Bel Ami is a screenplay of Guy de Maupassant's novel of the same name. It demands serious approach.

Rob: "When I read the script, I learned that this character is absolutely atypical to me. Basically, it's a story about the bad guy, who is ready to do bad things to achieve for the sake of his benefit."

Robert is undoubtedly lucky - he's accompanied by real hollywood beauties - Uma Thurman, Christina Ricci, Kristin Scott Thomas. And he has an erotic scene with each of them. Unfortunately, one by one, and not all together.

Christina: There's an intrigue and a game in this story, just like in real life. I think, everyone can find themselves in some character.

Kristin Scott Thomas: I like this story about the guy, who can rule the women, arrange them around himself as he see fits. I think, that's interesting enough.

Bel Ami

Twilight's Robert Pattinson plays an unscrupulous journalist on the make in 19th century Paris in an adaptation of Guy de Maupassant's novel directed by Declan Donnellan and Nick Ormerod (from theatre company Cheek by Jowl.) Long before phone hacking and the Leveson Inquiry, the film shows that journalists were using the most devious means to get ahead.

Will the Robert Pattinson movie Bel Ami be screened at the Berlin Film Festival? Rumor has it that it will. Although that is certainly a possibility, the issue may turn out to be a little complicated. [Watch Bel Ami trailer.]

Larry Richman has written a long and very detailed article on the likelihood — or not — of Bel Ami having its "official" World Premiere in Berlin, whether in competition or in one of the various sidebars. The word "official" is between quotes because Bel Ami has been shown at special screenings (for women only) in various Belgian cities in early January.

"All sections of the Berlin Film Festival have in their requirements, 'World Premieres are given priority,'" Richman explains. "Normally, the definition of 'World Premiere' would not allow for a previous theatrical run. … Then again, if the film was accepted into Berlin, the filmmakers were likely notified of that prior to the decision to have some screenings in Belgium. So they may have asked Berlin if they could do it."

Richman makes a good case that the key here is whether or not the Belgian screenings of Bel Ami could be considered something other than "public" showings of the film. If the answer is Yes, then Bel Ami could indeed have its "World Premiere" at the Berlinale.

One film that has been shown elsewhere (the United States and Bosnia Herzegovina) but that will be screened in Berlin (not as a World Premiere) is Angelina Jolie's In the Land of Blood and Honey, which is up for a Golden Globe for Best Foreign Language Film.
Next week, the Berlin Film Festival will announce further titles included in its 2012 line-up. The festival runs February 9-19.

Bel Ami was directed by Declan Donnellan and Nick Ormerod, and adapted by Rachel Bennette from Guy de Maupassant's classic novel. In addition to Robert Pattinson as the ambitious, sexually alluring ex-soldier Georges Duroy, the period drama also features Kristin Scott Thomas, Christina Ricci, Uma Thurman, Colm Meaney, Natalie Tena, Holliday Grainger, Pip Torrens, James Lance, and Todd Peterson. Bel Ami is scheduled to open on March 2 in the UK and June 27 in France.

The Berlin Film Festival is coming on fast and furious with 7 more titles added to the Competition program including Robert Pattinson-starrer Bel Ami, Tsui Hark’s hit 3D actioner Flying Swords Of Dragon Gate and James Marsh’s Shadow Dancer – although in a bit of a misnomer, those films are all screening out of competition.

The Hollywood Reporter says the same too:

BERLIN - Bel Ami, the period drama starring Twilight heart throb Robert Pattinson with Uma Thurman will have its world premiere out of competition at the Berlin international film festival.

The drama, the feature debut of Brit directors Declan Donnellan and Nick Ormerod, is based on a novel by French writer Guy de Maupassant and is the story of a young man’s rise to power in Paris. Christina Ricci, Kristin Scott Thomas and Colm Meaney also star.
