How has she regressed so severely as an actress?

I realize "Scream Queens" isn't the type of show where it is supposed to show off one's acting skills due to the quality and overall campy nature of the show itself, but even the content she is given, the execution is so poor.

She is miscast as Chanel #5. Her acting is just so bad, wooden, and amateur. Everything she says, it sounds so poorly exasperated and high school level. She used to be so good -- now, it's all just bad.

Are you sure she has "regressed"? She was a very cute youngster who fit roles for children but what evidence do we have, what roles can you cite, where she demonstrated talent above the ordinary? You write "she used to be so good." Specifically what roles do you have in mind?

It's much easier to impress people/critics as a child actress because most of your competition is truly awful.

Comedy is one of the hardest types of acting....and she is great in the show. Also, as a child actress...being on a fox show that is pretty popular right now is a very good thing. That's progressive not regressive.

I hate to say it but I agree with you. Whether it's her, the writing, or a combination of the two, she is really wooden and high school drama class in Scream Queens. I was so excited when I heard she was cast in the show, but now she is my least favorite member of the cast in terms of the performance being turned in. Not that Emma Roberts is doing amazing work, but at least her nastiness is better acted.

It's probably a combination. At least SOME is the writers'; fault because she barely has any lines. Although, maybe they gave her so few lines as they realized she was not acting well, so who knows.

Do you remember a show called Cybill? Cybill Shepherd plays a struggling actress and in one episode she gets a role in a commercial. However, the director is so bad and gives her such bad direction that her friends make fun of her performance. I think that's the case with this show. The writing and the directing were weak enough that the actors looked bad as a result.

I've seen her do other films recently and she's a lot better is all of them.

Admittedly I haven't seen any of her recent roles but I think TxMike pretty much hit the nail on the head with this

She was a very cute youngster who fit roles for children but what evidence do we have, what roles can you cite, where she demonstrated talent above the ordinary?

She was never an exceptional actress as a child IMO. She was always an average actress at best. However because she was a child and still cute she was able to get away with it. It's actually much more likely it has just become more obvious that she's not that great of an actress because she's older now.

The only exception I can think of is perhaps Little Miss Sunshine. The rest of her performances as a child were bland and lackluster IMO.

I thought she was really amazing on The Call (that movie she did with Halle Berry).
