He really is the best travel host I've seen on TV, nobody else ever matched his combination of being hilarious and informative. A good travel host is someone the viewer feels they'd like to travel with, and Bourdain was the perfect pretend travel companion - the guy who went fabulous places and who was hilarious when things go screwy, and who was pals with every top chef in the world and who got you into the best restaurants with VIP service.

Michael Palin is a very respectable second place, in the great travel host competition, but there's nobody on American TV now that has a tenth of Bourdain's brains or appeal.

Stanley Tucci's show about Italy wasn't bad.

Bourdain is still my favorite, though. Totally appealed to the parasocial tendencies I try to keep a right lid on, he got through my guard with the wit and good food.
