Jason Segal has made it bigger in Hollywood. So has Neil Patrick Harris. I wonder why not Josh Radnor. He's the main star of HIMYM.
shareI could picture ted as a tv star, not a movie star. A few succesful sit-coms, maybe 1 or 2 succesful dramas, cop-procedurals, and tv-movies.
and Jason segal is really only a stoner-comedy star. a very funny star none the less. and NPH has really only the Harold and Kumar movies.
There's still way more buzz about Jason Segal and NPH. NPH has done Broadway in addition to hosted the Emmys. Thats a pretty big stint. Jason Segals name is also more out there. I had to look up Ted's real name, but Marshall's I already knew.

he (jason) is one of Judd Apatow's crew. Being a huge fan of Apatow, I am a fan of Jason Segal. Josh, this is the only thing that I know from him.
After Doogie Houser, and Starship Troopers, I never saw NPH until Harold and Kumar.
I predict that Josh will get atleast a few succesful series.
He doesn't really have star quality, could you really see him as a star of a Hollywood movie? Probably some made for tv one, but other than that...no. He's just a regular Joe. Meanwhile NPH's character on HIMYM is epic, not to mention he has other talents. Also, Jason segel is funny, he has also had movies proven to bring in viewers (FSM and I love you man).

Connections. Jason Segel is well connected. He can write and star. He's friends with the Apatow crew which makes things easier for him.
NPH did a lot of Broadway between Doogie and HIMYM.
Its about whom you know when it comes to Jason Segal. He got his first brake on Freaks and Geeks and pretty much the whole cast of that show get to be in Judd Apatow movies such as Jason. I dont think Jason has really been in any movie that doesnt have Judd's name in it some place. Not saying Jason isnt talented, I love Jason, but it is about who you know. I think Josh will do well because he has that Tom Hanks appeal and he is truly talented! It just may take a little longer.

shareEasy answer: NPH, Jason Segel, and Alyson Hannigan have all been around much longer than Josh Radnor and done much much more. Also, Radnor is playing the "everyman" on HIMYM and so his acting range is not shown nearly as much because he is, for the most part, the stable/normal/vanilla member of the crew while the other four get to be very outlandish at times and get to have fun which is appealing to producers and directors.
Also, as with many sitcom stars Josh Radnor is known pretty much only for this while the other guys are able to disappear into their other roles because they have a range of work. For example, when I see Alyson Hannigan I think of her Buffy role, American Pie role, and HIMYM; when I see NPH I think of Doogie of course, HIMYM, Harold and Kumar, and Dr. Horrible; when I see Jason Segel I think of Muppets, Freaks and Geeks, Forgetting Sarah Marshall, I Love You, Man, etc. However when I saw Happythankyoumoreplease I usually saw Josh Radnor as Ted Mosby even though his character was very unlike his HIMYM role.
As of right now he has that problem that some celebrities have where they are just identified with one role and can't seem to do anything else. Look at Jerry Seinfeld, Ray Romano, David Schwimmer, and Matthew Perry and so many other people...you can't look at Matthew Perry and not see Chandler. Also, based on his non-HIMYM work he seems like he doesn't like the big Hollywood scene anyway and it almost seems as though he tries to avoid it unlike NPH and Jason Segel.
