Tricia helps PETA: How I define irony.

From Scifiwire.com:

Battlestar Galactica star Tricia Helfer and her rescued cat, Mr. Nix, appear in a new ad for PETA, the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, urging cat owners to care properly for their animals.

The ad plays on Helfer's character, the murderous Cylon Number Six, and asks people to "Be an Angel for Animals."

"Your cats depend on you," Helfer says in the ad. "Play with them, clean their litterbox daily, never leave them outside unattended, and always make sure they have clean water and a cozy spot for gazing out at the great outdoors. Most importantly, be sure to show them love and affection every day." PETA also urges cat owners to get their animals spayed or neutered.

PETA quoted Helfer, who has six cats, as saying, "Number Six would not be very kind to somebody who abuses animals. She would probably ... do to them what they were doing to the animals."

Maybe someone should tell Ms. Helfer that PETA murdered thousands of stray and runaway pets in 2006, without trying to find them new homes the way the local pound and the ASPCA does.

WASHINGTON, Jan. 10 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- An official report from People for The Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA), submitted nine months after a Virginia government agency's deadline, shows that the animal rights group put to death more than 97 percent of the dogs, cats, and other pets it took in for adoption in 2006. During that year, the well-known animal rights group managed to find adoptive homes for just 12 pets. The nonprofit Center for Consumer Freedom (CCF) is calling on PETA to either end its hypocritical angel-of-death program, or stop its senseless condemnation of Americans who believe it's perfectly ethical to use animals for food, clothing, and critical medical research.

Not counting animals PETA held only temporarily in its spay-neuter program, the organization took in 3,061 "companion animals" in 2006, of which it killed 2,981. According to Virginia's Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services (VDACS), the average euthanasia rate for humane societies in the state was just 34.7 percent in 2006. PETA killed 97.4 percent of the animals it took in. The organization filed its 2006 report this month, nine months after the VDACS deadline of March 31, 2007.

"Pet lovers should be outraged," said CCF Director of Research David Martosko. "There are thousands of worthwhile animal shelters that deserve Americans' support. PETA is not one of them."

In courtroom testimony last year, a PETA manager acknowledged that her organization maintains a large walk-in freezer for storing dead animals, and that PETA contracts with a Virginia cremation service to dispose of the bodies. In that trial, two PETA employees were convicted of dumping dead animals in a rural North Carolina trash dumpster.

Today in Southampton County, Virginia, another PETA employee will face felony charges in a dog-napping case. Andrea Florence Benoit Harris was arrested in late 2006 for allegedly abducting a hunting dog and attempting to transport it to PETA's Norfolk headquarters.

"PETA raised over $30 million last year," Martosko added, "and it's using that money to kill the only flesh-and-blood animals its employees actually see. The scale of PETA's hypocrisy is simply staggering."

PETAs philosophy is that an animal is better off dead than in the hands of humans. "Companion" animals like dogs and cats should never have been domesticated, and will be better off dead so as not to be corrupted or harmed by us humans. They have in the past espoused mass human suicide to make more room for animals. The Animal Liberation Front, which is a branch of PETA, has been declared a terrorist orginazation and has caused hundreds pf millions of dollars in damages when they have bombed and burned universities and businesses. I have no truck with them.

That's the ironic part: PETA's viewpoint, and Helfer's Ad.

They had one of those "Human Meat" protests here two weeks ago, where they saranwrap naked people up on the street to make them look like something on the butcher aisle. I got bullied off when I tried to buy a hot redhead for 2 bucks a pound. The only thing I hate more then Hypocrisy is false advertising.

see, its fine to believe that dogs and cats should never have been domesticated, its fine to believe someone or something is better off dead than the way it is - its when you ACT on that belief by senslessly killing people or things that makes you a fu*ktard.

those beliefs are just YOUR beliefs, the person or animal in question might have a totally different opinion to you, so killing that person/animal on the basis that youre "doing them a favour" is simply retarded and disgusting.

by that logic its fine for islamic terrorists to kill us "infidels" because we are an afront to allah, they are actually doing us a favour by ending our sinful ways - so long as they believe it, its ok for them to act on it.

peta sound like a bunch of hypocritical bastards as far as i'm concerned

(also something that always gets me about these extremeist animal rights people, particularly the ones who harrass and assault people who work in animal testing places - they seem to forget that those same people they throw bricks at are animals too - we're ALL animals, the word animal doesn't mean "anything that isn't human" it means a sentient living creature, of which humans are one of many, the only living things that arn't animals are plants

just makes me laugh....)

You Dare Agree With Me?!

Best Friends is a far better organization and actually does something. PETA is full of cranks, which is no surprise being Newkirk started the whole thing. It starts at the top.

Peta Has a lot of enemies in the meat industry, vivisection etc. They love to distort the truth.

Peta's view on euthanasia is simply that it is better to die quickly than have years of suffering in an unwanted place or with humans who abuse them. Anyone sane would agree with that.
Millions and millions of animals--no restrictions on breeders, this is the reality.

The claims about Peta grabbing animals are constantly being put forward and being debunked.

The last one was conveniently announced a day after Sam Simon donated money to Peta.
