A question for the Brits

Is Harry intentionally using a standard British accent or just watered-down Received Pronunciation like you hear from Jude Law or Daniel Craig? Harry doesn't sound like his brother, and definitely a few notches less elegant than his father King Charles.

reply

There is no such thing as a British accent, there are 30 odd english accents and dialects in the UK.

His elegance flew out of the window as soon as he bumped into that toxic woman. Beta Boi Cuck Harry is trying to distance himself from his posh heritage with his mixed up posh accent and dialect so he can be part of Meagain's gang out there in Hollywokeland, and I wouldn't be in the least bit surprised if he starts to speak with a Californian drawl soon.

reply

That's like saying there's no such thing as an American accent. But, you knew what I meant and you saying there's a "California drawl" accent is like me saying that there's a "London lisp" spoken by millions.

BTW, the Royal Family are the biggest practioners of Wokism, and have been for decades.

reply

They were the biggest beneficiaries of the colonial system and slavery when both were in practice. They also had the benefit of watching other royals getting violent treatment when the political systems shifted or collapsed in their respective countries. Their wokism is the result of wanting to keep their necks free from a noose or off of a chopping block. Hard to imagine in 2023 but a very real worry just a few generations ago. In the 20th Century a hasty name change occurred when the House of Hanover was discontinued in favor of the more WASPY sounding House of Windsor.

reply

More BS from you.

Britain abandoned slavery before the US and enforced it.

You are anti Britain it's clear from your posts you appear to not even know anything about real history which doesn't surprise me a lot of Americans are the same been brainwashed.

I was born in US by the way and left early 20's and have lived in many different countries with Britain being one of them.

reply

Britain benefited from slavery for many years and only being weakened from WWII forced them to abandon colonialism. Britain was a primary buyer of American produced cotton which used slaves until 1865 and used the marginally better share cropping system for almost 100 years afterward.

reply

You buy cheap stuff from China, so you benefit from oppressed workers too!

reply

Child labor.

reply

I avoid Chinese made products at every opportunity. I avoid giving money to Walmart whenever possible because I want money kept at home. I don't even want dumb hillbillies from Bentonville, Arkansas to be billionaires.

reply

Liar. It's impossible to avoid Chinese products. They're everywhere.

reply

Worrying about my economic decisions will not absolve the Brits of the guilt they carry from exploiting other nations and other people in different eras. It might be time to change your name here to faulty reasoning.

reply

Without Britain, no industrial revolution, you've benefitted from Britain's slavery. Sorry if you hate that fact.

Nice way of skirming around the fact that you don't really avoid Chinese products though.

reply

My argument was Britain was not above guilt. I never said that the US was blameless. But if Britain had sourced fiber and textiles in a different manner the US cotton industry would have been subsistence farming in nature therefore no profit in using slaves. Perhaps a bit less lavish living by the British upper classes.

Without the US no industrial revolution. McCormick with the reaper. Deere with the steel plow. Fulton with the steam engine. Those men freed the thinkers from spending every minute they were awake worrying about surviving thus freeing them to innovate. The US fed Europe during and after WWI and WWII prevented making a bad situation worse with wide spread starvation.

reply

You don't have any argument leave it to the people who know something about the subject.

It's time to keep attending school kid and get some real world experience.

Every country is guilt of something so what.

If it wasn't for a lot of these nations the world wouldn't have advanced.

You live in a fantasy land typical American brainwashed.

ignore button pressed

reply

Ignore....... no more! It's hilarious that you do not see how brainwashed you are. But keep at it with the selective reading...... if you can even call it that.

reply

Britain ended slavery with the stroke of a pen. Millions of white Americans were so racist they were willing to die in a civil war so black people could still be used as slaves.

reply

You obviously did not read my comment from two hours ago. Britain purchased American cotton which was produced by slaves prior to 1865 and black share croppers from 1865 into the 20th Century. Britain benefited from the exploitation of slaves and later share croppers. Just as Britain exploited Egypt, India, Australia, and down the line in their empire.

reply

Every country in the world right now is benefitting from slavery in some way. Sorry if you don't like that fact.

How does that change the fact that millions of white Americans were willing to die so that black people could still be used as slaves in their country?

reply

They (Confederates) were willing to die because Britain in large part was making slave produced cotton very lucrative. So quite a few of your Brit ancestors clothed themselves in cotton which came from American plantations or share crop operations. Do you want a PO box number to send your reparations check to? By the way my Irish relatives are still looking for their check for all the crap you Brits pulled in Ireland. Just because the Beatles went around decades ago thumbing the establishment does not mean you are off the hook.

reply

No-one said anything about reparations from anyone. In any case, why are we blaming each other for something our ancestors did exactly?

reply

I'm not the one trying to make the argument that the Brits can claim the moral high ground unlike a certain other poster here. I actively try to make morally based economic decisions where possible but don't claim its a 100 percent proposition.

reply

You can only post via phone, computer or laptop, you know things made in China or at the very least a lot of the components in said devices were, which means you're benefitting from slavery right now. Are you going to send your thoughts to the slaves in China?

reply

I pray for a morally just world. You?

reply

I don't pray because there's no such thing as God. I accept the world for what it is. A world full of hypocrites including you and me.

reply

I'm not a hypocrite and I would imagine that you strive not to be one. You are only guilty of not being in the know as to a certain aspect of your history. Not only did the Brits make cotton highly profitable but their government directly supported the Confederate effort. Not that they overtly supported slavery but did not want the consequences of a supply disruption that would put the empire on edge. Yes, Britain was getting cotton from other places such as Egypt but that was earmarked for fine linens, towels, and clothing for the elite class. Nothing was left to make materials for the commoners.

reply

Actually, there is a California accent or is it the average American. The “A’s” are flat. The whole thing is flat and the cadence is lethargic. Nasally. And it’s most annoying when someone speaks too much using the same words over and over. And saying. It’s like….. I mean…. Right?? You know…..

I know because I’m around it. I’m guilty of it. Meghan has it. It’s an affliction.

reply

of course theres a british accent .

just becasue there are regioanl variations , even if they are big , doesnet meant there isnt a "british accent"

reply

As the guy above said, in England ALONE (ie. not Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland), we have scores of accents, despite what Americans think.

Harry just has a ''home counties'' accent not as posh as his grandmother's (the Queen) was.

reply

No need to elaborate on the guy's above misinterpretation of my question.

reply

Oh fuck off bourbonking you fucking troll bag of wanks.

reply

"No need to elaborate on the guy's above misinterpretation of my question."

Yes there fucking was

reply

I just found that out few years ago. But I think that applies to any nation.

reply

all i know is Scottish sounds coolest and English sounds gayest

reply

Is it true that homophobes are usually latent homosexuals?

reply

You can talk all you want about the different acccents but get real, some are much better than others. If a person can't possibly be understood by most strong non-King's English speakers they, probably aren't very effective. The people who broadcast to the world on the BBC are quite understandable you don't have to hang on every word.

The best GB accent I've heard is George Sanders in "Lloyds of London." He sounded great.

reply

i am not homophobic that would mean i am scared of em. i am just disgusted by em bud...

reply

So true. But I have to have subtitles on when watching and listening to a Scot to translate.

reply

yeah i cant understand em especially when they drink but that is part of why i like their accent, it is funny as fuck

reply

Absolutely. Some of their slang is hilarious.

reply

I'll be corrected on any of this cos the Royal family are not my top priority

but his dad isn't Charles

tbh he's just got a fairly regular London accent. probably the sort you have when you don't watch Eastenders every day

Hollywood British accents are not British accents. if you want to hear real Brit accents on film, watch things by Film Four

and if I'm watching a film and I realise it's by Film Four, I'll get a slightly let down feeling that I'm not about to watch a blockbuster

reply

I get the Hollywood Brit accent bit, but I'm not referring to this like a middle American who thinks Simon Cowell is "cultured". I actually had the privilege to work all over the UK from London and Bristol to Manchester, Newcastle, and Edinburgh.

I just hear Harry and he sounds very casual for a royal. Even his trashy cousins from Lady Fergie sound more Posh than him.
