Does he speak german?

I see no german movies/productions in his filmographie but according to his biographie his father is german and he was born in germany plus his last name is german. So I'm curious, can he actually speak german?

He was only in Germany for a short while though then his family came to live in Southern Ireland. He can speak it, although he says not too well, if you watch Inglorious Bastards he speaks it in that.

He speaks a little German but not to a high standard. He moved to Ireland aged 2 and is only fluent in English.

Thanks, I guess I have to watch the original version of inglorious basterds I only watched the dubbed version
