shareThat's called backpedaling, because when you read what her mom wrote, she's clearly talking about vapor of some kind caused by heat, which can be seen. Greta said that because she realized how dumb it sounds. Here is the quote from her mom's book, that isn't a metaphor.
“She can see carbon dioxide with the naked eye. She sees how it flows out of chimneys and changes the atmosphere in a landfill.”
noo.. its called right wing media taking a quote out of context then getting called out for being dishonest journalists..
shareHow is that out of context? It's her mom's book, and that's a quote. It was her talking about how she knew she was special at an early age. Sorry, this was a literal statement that they know sounds ignorant as fuck, hence the backpedaling.

shareI legit feel bad for her, like any kid who gets a heavy spotlight at her age. The light usually doesn't last long and it stings when they are no longer special, and the people who have exploited her are to blame.
shareIf you're talking about child stars, yeah, it is a rough transition (as I understand it) when they move into adulthood.
There are a couple of things that make me hopeful for Greta's future.
1. She's not a "child". She's a teenager. That might mean all the difference as her personality is a little more cemented and she's a touch more aware of her place in the world. Not fully by any means, but certainly more than most child stars are.
2. She's not a typical celebrity, famous for being cute on camera. She's renowned for activism. Again, because she's moving through the teen transitional years, she probably is genuinely interested in this, and it's possible she can transfer smoothly into a career in politics or environmentalism, biological sciences, etc., and have this actually just be a really great first step in her career.
So I don't feel bad for her - not yet - and I hope that she does some good out there whether she sticks with it or not.
